The Salvation Army Youth Services offer an integrated suite of programs engaging with young people across Australia. Our services create intentional avenues for young people to explore opportunities, build support networks, and access, participate and contribute to their communities. Youth services provide a diverse range of programs which include housing and homelessness, driver training, education, employment and training, AOD support, social and community activities, specialist therapeutic responses and youth justice programs.

Oasis Sydney is The Salvation Army's response to youth homelessness in Sydney's inner city. Working collaboratively and in partnership with others who share and understand our values, Oasis provides access to over 20 programs and services that offer critical points of intervention and support for at-risk young people between 16 and 25 years of age.

From crisis and transitional accommodation, right through to case management, education and training; living skills, vocational programs, counselling and outreach services, Oasis works to re-establish choice, self-worth and confidence in a safe environment.

We are seeking values-driven Youth Support Workers, reporting to the Crisis Accommodation Services Manager. You will assist in the facilitation of the efficient operations of the Crisis Accommodation program, creating a client-centred therapeutic environment for the young people using this service.

There are multiple casual roles available, located in Surry Hills.

You will successfully

  • Assist in the creation & daily running of a therapeutic environment within the Crisis Accommodation Service
  • Ensure the young people are not subjected to any form of abuse &, in particular, bullying or the threat of bullying
  • Identify, build rapport & engage with young people in order to respond to their immediate needs
  • Conduct life skills/training programs and assist in ensuring the programs continue to be relevant to the needs of the participants
  • Acquire and maintain a good working knowledge of accommodation and support options for homeless people both within TSA Network and external agencies

The Salvation Army is subject to public health orders. You may be required to provide evidence of vaccine status dependent on requirements.

You will have

  • Tertiary qualifications in youth work, welfare or related areas
  • Knowledge and understanding of youth homelessness, health and welfare issues, and appropriate intervention
  • Previous social and community service work experience in the youth service sector
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging young people of varying cultures, races, economic, social and educational status
  • A current Senior First Aid Certificate
  • A current NSW Drivers licence
  • A willingness to undergo a National Police check
