Position: Web Journalist – CTVNews.ca, Bell Media

Status: Temporary – part time

Location: 9 Channel Nine Court, Toronto (Ontario)

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Hours of Work: 24-40 hours per week depending on availability and need

You will work with the national digital team where you will be expected to identify, write and publish news stories for CTVNews.ca, a high-profile platform reaching one of the biggest audiences in Canada. You will also be expected to write news articles, background analysis and colourful features on stories from across Canada, and around the world. There will also be opportunities to write enterprise journalism.

Responsibilities:

• We are looking for an experienced journalist who has proven writing skills and a track record of in-depth and balanced reporting and an instinct for what works on digital platforms. This person will have the ability to write across multiple beats and will have experience with daily deadlines, and just as importantly, will have a collaborative attitude.
• Write 5-7 news stories per day, updating them with the latest information and working with television scripts and other newsroom sources
• Pitching ideas, researching, conducting interviews for original reporting
• Compiling, editing, publishing staff and wire stories, photos, videos, following editorial standards and best practices, with an eye to SEO
• Ensuring all copy published is free of typos, grammatical and substantive errors
• Work may include newsletters, visualizations in infographics, maps, quizzes, timelines and data journalism
• Weekend and early morning/evening shifts as assigned
• Participate in news editorial meetings
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• At least two (2) years’ experience with daily news in a newsroom

• Must have strong news and editorial judgment, have an excellent command of the English language, and an ability to write accurate and engaging headlines
• Ability to work under constant tight deadlines; time management skills and multi-tasking abilities are essential
• Must be familiar with Canadian Press Style Guide and Canadian libel law and adhere to CTV News policies
• Degree in journalism preferred

• Experience in breaking news operation an asset

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
