KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Designated/attending veterinarian Act as the Designated Veterinarian within the meaning of the Directive 2010/63/EU and as the Attending Veterinarian within the meaning of the ILAR (Institute for Laboratory Animal Research) guide for the R&D, multi-species animal facility of class 2 and 3 biocontainment Be responsible for the program of veterinary care, preventive medicine, health monitoring and good animal use practices (examinations, administrations, sampling, anaesthesia, euthanasia, pain management). The designated veterinarian has authority over the care and euthanasia of animals both during and outside study periods. As the responsible person for Animal Welfare, he is the spokesperson for Sanofi Animal Protection Charter and is responsible for its internal and external respect for subcontracted studies Ensure the continuity of veterinary care taking in charge the coordination and planning of on duty veterinarians. Be responsible of the regular training of external veterinarians and of the validity of the contract with VetAgro Sup (Veterinary School) Assure the responsibility of animal drug management for R&D in accordance with the legislation in force Be the de facto R&D veterinary member of the Animal Welfare Body and the Ethics Committee Ensure the preventive medicine and health monitoring and advices sanitary process Provide internal training and support for teams on vet care, surgery, good animal uses, ethical topics and health monitoring as needed Manage the retirement and adoptions program of the platform Support the NHP colony management in collaboration with the technicians, their collaborators and the head of platform: training program, NHP supply, etc. Support T@L use for the vet datas and reportsProjects support & strategy As a veterinarian and scientist, advice and support the researchers in their projects and external activities, regarding the protocols, the best in vivo models (e.g. technical aspects, transgenic animals...), the find and the choice of the contractors if needed, etc. This activity concerns as much the French as the American customers Support the homogeneity between IA vs R&D practices and vet position (AAALAC request) Ensure a scientific watch for animal models and share and advice to the technicians team and the researchers and internal customers Sanofi Pasteur accountability & representation Be one of the two certified persons for specific French authorization to house captive wild animals for the Non-Human Primates colony Be part of the Global Sanofi Animal Welfare Assessors group and carry out regular evaluations of suppliers and subcontractors for Sanofi Pasteur. Assure the Sanofi's policies compliance of SP R&D in vivo activities contractors Participate in the quality and HSES process of the platform (creation and revision of procedures and other documents, DDPP inspections, AAALAC accreditation, PASS, etc.)
Participate in internal and external appropriate working groups and organizations to ensure updated knowledge in laboratory animal sciences and full compliance with industrial standards Be a member of the Association Française des Sciences et Techniques des Animaux de Laboratoire (AFSTAL), European Society of Laboratory Animal Veterinarians Association (ESLAV) and of the European Primate Veterinarian association (EPV) PROFILE Education/Experience Diploma in Veterinary MedicineDiploma of Specialized Veterinary Studies in Sciences and Medicine for Laboratory AnimalsFrench Diploma for the authorization to design and conduct In vivo studiesAt least 5 years of experience in in vivo lab activitiesAAALAC expertiseCompetencies NHP careEthical aspects, trainingBSL2 and BSL3 knowledgesSurgeriesCore Competencies French regulatory training for animal surgerySanitary Accreditation delivered by State Veterinary AuthoritiesAbility certificate to house Cynomolgus macaques ( Macaca fascicularis )Expertise in laboratory animal sciences for 5 yearsAt Sanofi diversity and inclusion is foundational to how we operate and embedded in our Core Values.
