Name and description of the hiring department:

Business Data Assurance & Provisioning (BDAP) is the professional customer and technical services group for service level management of large, medium & small business accounts in the areas of Data, Broadband, IP and Voice. BDAP is a unique, multi-functional district responsible for a wide variety of traditional and emerging services in all market segments; regionally, nationally and globally. Our mission is to be the best Service Provider in the Telecommunications Industry.

We are looking for motivated candidates with knowledge of public or private telecommunications networks with emphasis on IP, Data, Broadband, and Integrated Services. Experience in the 'operations' of a telecommunications networks including expertise in the Service Provisioning and/or Service Assurance of Telecommunications Products and Services is important. Experience in service level management of customer networks and customer applications are an asset.

 

Job Duties / Accountabilities: 

Implement customer provisioning orders and troubleshoot network related troubles for various lines of business in a multi-vendor environment

Provide required status updates

Diagnose/troubleshoot and resolve problems in a timely manner on a wide variety of hardware platforms to the satisfaction of the client

Perform tests to completion and /or resolution and update ticket appropriately

Understand when to assign tickets to proper service suppliers

Escalate problems to internal/external suppliers and service partners to ensure outage time is minimized and trouble orders/tickets have proper documentation

Responsible for customer approved changes (Change Management)

Deal with all levels of technical and non technical management across the district and the business

Deal with unexpected problems and new situations

Participate actively in the resolution (isolate problem) of common failures and major outage re-establishment with various teams

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

Act as a team player with a focus on customer satisfaction

Keep up with emerging telecommunication technology

 

Possessing a valid IP certification (e.g. CCNA and CCNP), will be of benefit in carrying out duties and accountabilities.

As necessary, agree to undergo a background security check to meet a customer’s clearance requirement.

Essential Qualifications / Competencies:

Candidates who are part of the Craft and Services bargaining unit must have;

A college diploma in electronics or telecommunications, or equivalent work experience

Possess valid IP certifications for CCNA and CCNP is required

Additional IP certifications; JNCIA, Juniper, CVoice, etc. is an asset

Candidates from outside the Craft and Services bargaining unit must have:

A college diploma in electronics or telecommunications, or equivalent work experience

A minimum of a high school diploma

Possess valid IP certifications for CCNA and CCNP is required

Fluent in English, working knowledge in French is an asset

Intermediate knowledge of internetworking LAN/MAN/WAN

Intermediate knowledge of IP products and services (IPVPN, MPLS)

Intermediate knowledge of Legacy- Broadband products and services (T1, ATM, OE, NGCE)

Intermediate knowledge of Bell Canada's legacy products such as: Mega, Hyper, Low Speed Data, Analog, Datapac, Transport technologies OC-x and DS-x

Intermediate knowledge of vendor products (Cisco, Juniper, Nortel and Alcatel)

Intermediate knowledge of the following applications; TIM, FOCUS, IPACT, COPS, PVCOARS

Basic knowledge of Unix and scripting

Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office

Must possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks

Ability to make decisions promptly and manage risks while under pressure

Analytical thinking and problem solving abilities

 

Working Conditions:

This is a 24/7 operation. The candidate may be called upon to work variable schedules according to business needs (schedules within a given day are prepared by the Company with due consideration to seniority), to participate in a standby program and to work overtime as needed. Available and flexible to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays as needed.

Note that many working conditions are subject to terms outlined in the collective agreement.
