About the role 

WorkSafe New Zealand, Mahi Haumaru Aotearoa, is seeking an experienced policy professional who is ready to make the move into people and team leadership role.

Join our high-performing Operational Policy team whose work makes a visible impact on New Zealand's work health and safety performance and WorkSafe's core focus - everyone who goes to work comes home healthy and safe.

Key responsibilities:

• Providing day-to-day oversight of Advisors and Senior Advisors in the Operational Policy team
• Working closely with them to grow capability and support their delivery, and
• Sharing your own in-depth operational policy and regulatory expertise.
• Providing regulatory policy leadership and thought leadership both with the team and across WorkSafe.
• Delivering practical and solution focussed advice in complex areas.
• Supporting the Manager, Operational Policy to achieve the overarching functions of the Operational Policy team.

Ideally you will bring:

• People leadership to support, mentor and coach a team of expert advisors.
• Managing relationships and effectively influencing and bringing people on board.
• Finding solutions to complex, ambiguous, and risky issues, and a track record of creating practical solutions for those issues.
• Policy (at a senior level, preferably operational policy), critical thinking, research and analysis, and the ability to understand, interpret and apply legislation.
• Communicating complex issues clearly and succinctly, both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge (or a demonstrated ability to quickly acquire the knowledge) of the relevant legislation and operational policy frameworks within WorkSafe would also be beneficial.
