Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind one of the World’s largest Cloud Infrastructures, responsible for powering all Microsoft online Products and Services as well as powering Microsoft’s “Cloud First” mission. In this role, the successful candidate will have demonstrable experience fostering a data-driven culture that enables stakeholders to make informed decisions through data that positively impact the business. The individual in this role will work across CO+I teams to understand and operationalize their analytical requirements and priorities and work closely with program managers, analysts, and management to create and deliver insightful analyses. 

 

This is a hands-on data analyst role and will suit those individuals who are passionate about data analytics, is comfortable dealing with ambiguity, and has a track record of storytelling and making data-driven recommendations to drive business value. The ideal candidate is passionate about data and is experienced in a full range of data science and data engineering skills. A successful candidate will have experience in solving complex business problems through data analysis, building proof-of-concepts to prove out business value, and partner with the team to build out BI solutions in a deadline-driven environment, with a quality-first mindset.

 

Success in this role will depend on ability to translate business requirements into data-driven analytical projects and experiments. It will also depend on the ability to synthesize findings and effectively communicate the findings through visualizations. The data analyst needs to be comfortable working with data from diverse structured and unstructured sources in a variety of formats. Responsibilities

Responsibilities:  

As a Data Analyst on our team within the Core Operations Functions (COF) organization, you will own the end-to-end reporting and key data assets utilized by leadership review and analysis.

Collaborate across teams to define our future state data strategy and data model.

Collaborate across teams to advance our tooling and capabilities.

Interpret data and analyses, write reports, create dashboards, and make actionable recommendations.

Evangelize analysis results to key stakeholders to positively impact player and business outcomes.

Define, automate, and deliver core reporting as a tool for presenting results and aid in storytelling.

Present insights and learnings to key stakeholders and executives in standard business forums.

Define, generate, automate, and monitor OKR metrics for the team. Ensure metrics are both simple to understand and easy to use in driving the business.

Manipulate and analyze complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources using a variety of tools and data analysis techniques.

Define and implement data governance policies and procedures.

Provide clarity to business and technical stakeholders on our data nuances.

Continually seek opportunities in how we can make better use of data to inform better business decisions.

Learn, live, and coach the One Microsoft culture and values. Lead through change by bringing clarity, generating energy, and delivering success. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:  

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Engineering, or other Information Technology related fields

2+ years of experience in processing and building visualizations using reporting tools such as Power BI and Excel

2+ years of experience as a data engineer, BI developer, or data analyst

2+ years of developed data acquisition systems / tools for automated metric reporting. 

Preferred Qualifications 

Strong analytical skills and/or Business Intelligence Skillset.

Experience in data analytics & reporting tools and techniques (e.g. Power BI, Power Query, DAX, SQL)

Technical data analysis/modeling experience using Excel/R/Power BI/SAS/STATA or similar platforms and familiarity with one or more programming or scripting languages such as Python, R, SQL

Ability to clearly and concisely communicate the results of analytics project to influence key stakeholders

Ability to assimilate relevant data from various sources and provide key insights that drive recommendations

Demonstrated experience with data pipelines, data cleansing, data transformations and other analytical techniques for data manipulation

Experience in defining master data or information governance policies and procedures

Demonstrated experience in Enterprise data management and systems integration

Be able to decompose complex systems and processes into easy-to-understand building blocks

Ability to think strategically, work effectively in ambiguous situations and respond favorably to change, execute effectively, work under deadline pressure and manage multiple projects

Strong written and oral communication, organization, and time-management skills with high attention to detail

Able to lead with curiosity and a strong growth mindset

 

The ideal candidate possesses the following: 

Master’s degree in Data Science, Engineering, or other Information Technology related fields

Exceptional problem identification and problem resolution skills 

 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
