This career opportunity is located within the Wireline Access Network Team and more specifically within the Atlantic Regional Planning team. The Regional Planning team main activities includes FTTH & legacy network planning, Network/Field design support & guidelines, network capacity management & FTTH architecture evolution.
Duties / Responsibilities
The candidate will be responsible and accountable for:
- Provide technical & outside plant provisioning recommendations to Access Engineering Implementation Manager, Implementation coordinators and Facilities associates regarding technology opportunities as well as roll out / implement access guidelines changes.
- Prepare detailed supporting/guidelines documentations for the Operation and Access Engineering teams:
- Fibre Optic Network Technologies;
- Aerial & Underground Structures;
- Copper and Legacy Network Technologies.
- Based on field trial results and/or used case studies; develop technical guidelines supporting the design and implementation of the Outside Plant network.
- Collaborate closely with OTR (Outside Technology Research) on product development, implementation and best practices.
Essential skills and abilities
- Deep knowledge and experience of Bell Canada’s outside plant and central office environments (min. 5 years of experience);
- Good understanding of the Access Network and Operation teams (end to end); Strong knowledge of optical components;
- Working knowledge of the various Bell groups;
- Interpersonal skills, customer focus and strong team player;
- Ability to carry out multiple projects simultaneously and manage multiple priorities; Good analytical skills, good judgment, accountability and autonomy;
- Excellent writing skills and ability to prepare documentation;
- Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite;
- Ability to maintain leading edge technical skills in a rapidly changing environment;
- Have a good analytical thinking, good judgment, be responsible and rigorous
- Preferably degree in Civil, Industrial, Electrical, Telecom or other engineering
- Open to change and experimentation
- Be autonomous and able to make prompt decisions
Desired Skills / Competencies
- Master in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mechanical or Civil Engineering;
- Former experience in Field Operation, Supply Chain, Procurement, Access Network
- Good understanding of the Outside Plant Construction and Field Services teams
- Abilities to deal with manufacturers, suppliers and contractors
- Ability to do technical research
- Experience working with CSA overhead & underground systems
