Position Description:

This role is within the newly formed Cloud Development Productivity team at Morgan Stanley, Montreal. The aim of this team is to maximize the productivity of Morgan Stanley application developers as they adopt of Cloud technologies by providing a focal point for Cloud related activities within the core developer productivity area, sharing knowledge and ensuring a consistent approach to Cloud architectures across the main development languages.

The technology platform at Morgan Stanley is undergoing a significant change as applications move to adopt Cloud technologies. The Cloud Development Productivity team will be at the forefront of this work:

Providing direction and guidelines for re-architecting applications moving from a proprietary platform to a modern Cloud one.

Collaborating with application development teams to test out best practice in real life scenarios and ensure we make best use of the available technologies.

Collaborating with infrastructure teams to investigate emerging Cloud technologies and testing out use cases.

Together this work lays the foundation for the next generation architectures for Morgan Stanley applications as they move to adopt Cloud. It provides a unique opportunity to gain experience with a wide range of different architectural challenges as well as different Cloud platforms.

The Cloud Development Productivity team is part of a wider organization, Enterprise Application Infrastructure (EAI), that is responsible for developer productivity in the main development languages - Java, C , .Net, Python, Node.js, etc. One world renown member of the EAI family is Bjarne Stroustrup, the original designer of C . The Cloud Development Productivity team will work closely with experts in all the main development languages to set the best practice and architecture guidelines for Cloud adoption.

For this role we are looking for a developer who has experience in re-architecting applications for Cloud. Knowledge of modern authentication, in particular OAuth2/OIDC, would also be an advantage. While it is a global team, Cloud Development Productivity works collaboratively, exchanging ideas and approaches on a daily basis. A common trait for team members is a curiosity about what is happening under the hood how, why, and what if are questions we discuss on a daily basis.

Qualifications

Relevant skills:

Expertise in at least one of Python, Java, .Net, C or JavaScript (Node.js)

Experience with one or more Cloud platform such as Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, OpenShift, etc.

Strong communication skills, verbal and written

Natural inclination to dig beneath the surface to understand how things work, why they are a certain way and what the design trade-offs are.

Nice to have:

Docker or OCI container techniques

Knowledge of Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform

Experience using Service Mesh, eg Istio, Consul, etc

Knowledge of modern authentication such as OAuth2/OIDC.
