What is the opportunity?
In this role of Senior Manager, Data Management, RBC Global Asset Management (GAM), you will partner with business leaders, data governance and project teams to ensure the completeness and accuracy of enterprise data within Global Asset Management, with a focus on one or more assigned data domains. Build trust and confidence across the organization around enterprise data and data processes. This position will play an important role in GAM’s vision to become a data driven firm, and will serve as a go-to expert for the data that is managed by GAM’s Data Governance, and how to leverage it for business value. What will you do?
Accountable for one or more specific enterprise data domains, you will work across the organization to understand enterprise data needs, data requirements and usage. Conduct research related to data requirements and present proposals to appropriate teams. Where needed, work across multiple business teams to achieve consensus on key data decisions including sourcing, classifications, and definitions.
Lead the work of one or more Data Working Groups, minute decisions and provide input to the Data Governance Council for key decisions that need to be escalated.
Define accountability for making data decisions – raise issues, risks and business decisions to appropriate teams.
Prioritize data work to ensure optimal value across projects and the organization
Join an agile data squad and provide guidance on data definitions, locations, and workflows.
Work with data squads to document and translate data requirements into technical requirements
Join an agile data squad and provide guidance on data within the organization.
In partnership with the data governance disciplines, business teams and business technology:
Document data definitions, create data quality controls and monitors
Develop data integration processes
Define operational workflows for maintaining data
Plan for data staging and delivery to reporting and downstream applications
Communicate regularly with project and business teams on data readiness and to identify data gaps and new requirement
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, IT/MIS/CS or related experience
Demonstrated reporting, data analysis experience, especially working with complex business processes and specific data domains
Strong communication, interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with business users and technical individuals
Understanding of data flows, data architecture and data querying ability, including comfort with writing Oracle and MS SQL queries for data- mining and analysis
Nice to Have
Experience working in financial investment industry ideally within an asset management group
Decision making capabilities including problem solving approaches
Ability to solve specific business problems, while keeping an overall business and data vision in mind.
Experience working within a data warehousing environment.
