Responsibilities

As a User Experience (UX) Engineer Manager, you are the synthesis of stunning design and high-quality engineering. You will take product concepts and bring them to life to push the boundaries of user interface design through polish, interaction, and motion design for a fast-growing social learning platform at Microsoft.

The ideal candidate will work in collaboration with designers and engineers to drive product interactions that are rooted in sound design and thoughtful engineering. You are expected to have a clear understanding of design practices (interaction design, usability, visual design, and motion) and merge these with established engineering best practices. You need to be a great creator, collaborator, and communicator in both small and large team scenarios. As the engineering lead, you will be a steward of craftsmanship and attention to detail to help drive pixel-perfect, delightful, and accessible user experiences.

Responsibilities

Bridge the vision and strategy of design and engineering to ideate and deliver world-class experiences.

Ensure the Flipgrid experience is usable, performant, and delightful across every platform.

Quickly be able to turn conceptual ideas into thoughtful interactions that can be prototyped, tested, iterated upon, and delivered.

Envision and deliver high quality interfaces with smooth animations and delight, working closely with UI and motion designers.

Work collaboratively with design and engineering teams to facilitate, collaborate, and contribute to our industry-leading platform.

Be an instrumental part of community + design feedback loops and drive product improvements.

Be a key contributor to the Flipgrid design system and extend our interaction models to new places.

Maintain code standards regarding quality, privacy, accessibility, security, documentation, etc.

Continually work to hone your skills, improve your craft, and share with others.

Qualifications

Qualifications

7+ years of web development (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Usability Testing) and mobile (iOS, Android) experience.

5+ years developing features and experiences for large-scale, cross-browser applications across both mobile and desktop.

5+ years guiding and mentoring a team of engineers.

A strong working knowledge of UX design at scale, information architecture, interaction design, motion design, visual design, user research, and usability testing, in addition to leading, organizing, and inspiring a team.

Passion for continually improving product experiences, quality, performance and reliability.

Expertise creating a variety of interaction design documents including user scenarios, task flows, conceptual models, competitor analysis, heuristic analysis.

Experience creating and managing UI design libraries and interaction guidelines across a large organization.

Demonstrable ability to work confidently with Product Management, Development, Product Planning, Brand, Marketing, and our user community.

Understanding of the array of technical constraints, user goals, and business requirements that shape current and future products.

Bonus credit for:

Experience with multiple devices and platforms (e.g. cross browser, mobile, responsive design)

Experience with Figma

Proficient in delivering accessible apps that leverage touch and spoken feedback.

Strong cross-discipline and cross-team collaboration skills.
