Our New Zealand team provides strategic and practical solutions to clients with environmental management challenges. We are seeking a Senior Terrestrial Ecologist to take a lead role in supporting our Water & Environment team’s Ecology practice across the New Zealand operations. You will join a highly regarded team with industry experts across Marine, Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecology and a range of exciting projects across the Asia Pacific Region.

The role:

Our New Zealand team provides strategic and practical solutions to clients with environmental management challenges. We are seeking a Senior Terrestrial Ecologist to take a lead role in supporting our Water & Environment team’s Ecology practice across the New Zealand operations. You will join a highly regarded team with industry experts across Marine, Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecology and a range of exciting projects across the Asia Pacific Region.

The role will be based in Petone, Wellington. With our ‘Work Your Way’ policy we offer work from home and other flexibility options. Your responsibilities will include –

  • Identifies trends, issues, opportunities and solutions across the discipline.
  • Develop complex ecological assessments within time and budget restraints.
  • Author technical written reports within core expertise.
  • Complete research, field survey and reporting tasks.
  • Project management including preparing work plans and resource schedules for projects.
  • Lead technical elements of medium to large sized projects.
  • Participate as a senior team member in the completion of ecology projects, preparation of proposals and feasibility studies.
  • Leads, manages and/or reviews projects & project teams to ensure work output is of a technically high standard.
  • Contributes to strategy and innovation ideas in the team.
  • Ensures tasks are completed in a timely manner, objectives met and takes accountability for results.
  • Suggests opportunities for inclusion in strategic planning efforts.

About you

To be successful you will display –

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Ecology/Biological Science/Environmental Science or equivalent.
  • 7+ years' experience in a similar environment.
  • Member of, or eligible to be a member of, Environmental Institute for Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ).
  • Recognised specialist knowledge in area of expertise.
  • Ability to manage projects in accordance with set specifications.
  • Ability to solve problems and manage conflict.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with clients, staff and managers.
