We are looking for an experienced Senior Technical Project Manager to join our Technology and Channels group.

As a Senior Technical Project Manager you will be responsible for delivery of technology projects for Oranga Tamariki and ensuring alignment of project delivery activities with governance, commercial, financial and assurance processes, as well as with approved technology strategy.

The Ministry is setting up capabilities as it embarks on a transformation programme to achieve its goals. Technology and Channels is responsible for the Ministry's technology strategy, systems and services.  It is an exciting time for the group as we are implementing and continuously improving a new ICT operating model so that we can deliver our responsibilities more efficiently. Our ICT operating model is founded on three main principles:

• User-centricity is paramount, with a focus on the front-line and the wider sector.
• We are 'cloud-only' and asset-light, choosing to buy as-a-service offerings from third party suppliers, rather than own technology assets.
• Our systems and processes will be agile and enabling, to deliver changes faster, reduce complexity and simplify system interactions.

 About the role | Mō te tÅ«nga

An overview of your responsibilities:

• Take full responsibility for the definition, documentation and successful completion of a range of projects, from complex, high value projects (typically with significant business, political, or high-profile impact, and high-risk dependencies) to simpler technology service implementation
• Select methods and tools, using agile and iterative techniques where appropriate, ensuring that effective project control, change control, assurance processes are maintained.
• Monitor and control resources and costs against the project budget and manage expectations of all project stakeholders at all levels.

About you | Mōu  

• Significant experience as a technical project manager in a large organisation and a track record of performance in complex environments, employing a range of project delivery methodologies.
• Demonstrable skills in everyday tools used by Project Managers including team planning and collaboration tools such as MS Project, Confluence and JIRA, and document management tools such as SharePoint.
• Demonstrated experience working in a large and complex organisation.
• Ability to bring enthusiasm and passion to a fast-paced working environment.
• Outstanding relationship management skills and can build trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Be open to and contribute to the development of fresh new ideas.
• Experience with working in a mixed delivery environment and with various project management methods including agile, waterfall, PRINCE2 and SAFe
• Cloud (AWS and Azure) delivery experience
• Demonstrated people management experience in leading high performing teams in complex environments.
• Excellent leadership, verbal, written, interpersonal and communication skills.
• The ability to earn respect and to create a sense of community amongst the members of the project
• Good knowledge of techniques for planning and delivering projects effectively
• Demonstrated ability to see the "big picture" and understand the strategic context of projects
• Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
