The Linux Systems Group is building the Linux based technologies at Microsoft, and we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team. If you are interested in working on Linux or open-source projects at Microsoft, this is the job for you! 

Responsibilities

Our team plays a key role in driving Linux based virtualization technology in Microsoft. In this role, you will work closely with internal and external teams on defining a modern virtualization stack that meets customers’ requirements. You will work closely with upstream Linux, Rust-VMM and Cloud Hypervisor communities to bring the best Microsoft can offer and vice versa. You will have impact on all layers of a virtualization stack, from the hypervisor, Linux kernel, system libraries all the way up to the VMM.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• BE/BTech/MS in computer science or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience in system-level development (hypervisor, kernel and system libraries) on Linux.
• Understanding of low-level architectures (x86, ARM etc.).
• Understanding and hands on experience on Linux kernel and its core modules like memory management, process scheduling, networking, storage, file system etc.
• Knowledge of virtualization technologies like Xen, KVM, VFIO, QEMU etc.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, or similar cloud computing platform(s) is a plus.
• Experience with Rust or other modern, memory safe languages.
• Contributing to open-source projects, like the Linux kernel or other open-source system software, is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement complex solutions end-to-end.
• Strong aptitude in designing, developing, debugging, and validating excellent products.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
