Senior Site Reliability Engineer

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will join a team of highly motivated individuals that are working to rethink operations by transforming the current process to the Next Generation Operating Model in DevOps Services. RBC creates more value through innovation and technology, and DevOps services is the core enabler for the RBC technology advantage.

This role will be responsible for the development, implementation and support of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) solutions for DevOps Services. You will work collaboratively with the engineering and operations team to eliminate operational toil and taking operations and tools resiliency to the next level.

What will you do?

Champion Stability and Reliability across DevOps applications and services:

Work with Application Custodians and Operational Engineers to improve service reliability by reducing service degradation

Participate in incident root cause analysis to avoid reoccurrence

Continuously improving monitoring and alerting

Solution self-healing processes and automate incident response

Own and report on

SRE Metrics—including incident metrics - gather and analyze metrics from both operating systems and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding.

DevOps applications’ SLO and create error budgets

Lead effort to identify and automate toil

Evaluate continuously – what went well, what went wrong, what can be done to improve and prevent in future

Provide guidance to other team members on managing end-to-end availability and performance of mission critical services, on building automation to prevent problem recurrence, and on building automated responses for non-exceptional service conditions

Manage individual projects priorities, deadlines, and deliverables using Agile approach

Some after hours and weekend support

 

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience

4+ years of experience implementing SRE best practices

Hands-on experience using ELK Stack, Dynatrace, Moogsoft, PagerDuty, ServiceNow, Ansible, and GitHub

Hands-on experience scripting in Windows and Linux environment using PowerShell, Shell Scripting, Python, and Node.JS

Solid understanding of infrastructure component like VMs, load balancer, networking, and Open Shift

Ability to pick up new tools and concepts quickly, learn other coding languages as needed

Hands-on technical leadership experience, producing technical documentation, and contributing to technical direction

Nice to have:

Experience implementing and consuming DevOps pipeline is a plus

Experience using Postgres, MySQL, or MS SQL

Prior development experience as a full stack or back-end developer

Use Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Jenkins, Jira, and Confluence
