Job Description

  • Influence decision making that shapes how our future communities live and move about
  • Strategic relationship position working closely with local governments
  • A role where you can truly make a difference

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Our Local Government Partnerships Team has an exceptional opportunity for a Senior Investment Advisor to join the team in Auckland. This is a relationship focused and diverse role where you will develop strong partnerships across upper North Island local governments, creating genuine relationships that will foster sound investment advice supporting strategic transport programmes and projects.

This is a pivotal role where you will be engaging and supporting local governments through the business case process, to understand their needs, assist them to access funding and help them to ‘tell their story.'  Your exceptional communication skills will be the key to your success, as you provide assurance that investments are value for money and meet the Agency's strategic objectives.

You'll be aiding our partners to effectively plan and deliver innovative and future-focused transport solutions that will positively impact how our communities live and move about in the community.  Being a people person, will be key in helping to bridge Waka Kotahi's technical subject matter experts with our local government partners.

The Transport Services business group's aim is to provide, improve and maintain the land transport system to effectively enable transport services. Our focus is to design and deliver an integrated transport system for all New Zealanders.

Ko koe tÄ“nei | About you

You'll have exceptional relationship building skills and be a trusted advisor, able to clearly articulate investments are value for money for local communities as well as aligning to Waka Kotahi's strategic objectives.

We are looking for a confident self-starter, who thrives working collaboratively with diverse and varied stakeholders to achieve positive transport outcomes.

In addition, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Sound understanding experience in financial investment and business case processes
  • Experience in the evaluation of sector activities in government organisations to achieve value for money and national outcomes
  • Knowledge of local authority planning for transportation and investment decision making processes
  • Ability to work strategically within a national context
  • Strong analytical and interpretation skills
  • Experience establishing and nurturing local government stakeholder relationships.

With a new National Land Transport Plan (NLTP), recently approved, it's a great time to join the team, create strong partnerships and truly own some key projects moving forward!

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of, Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of, te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

Waka Kotahi requires that new employees are fully vaccinated (except for those who we accept have a genuine medical reason preventing vaccination).

At Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, it all starts with our people. The organisation's performance and success depends on the people who choose to make this a great place to work and make a difference for Aotearoa. Along with our other benefits we also have new Waka Kotahi Life, Income Protection and Critical Illness Insurance scheme available for permanent employees.

Waka Kotahi is an equal opportunity employer (EOE).
