Job Description

Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori

Revitalisation of te reo Māori is at the heart of what we do here at Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori.  Our mission is to give effect to the status of te reo Māori as an official language, to promote te reo Māori as an ordinary means of communication and as a living language, and to lead the coordination of the implementation of Te Maihi Karauna (Crown Māori Language Strategy).

We aim to create an environment where iwi and Māori through Te Maihi Māori can succeed and where the State Sector, private sector and wider community organisations are enabled to help revitalise te reo Māori.  We want all New Zealanders to value the Māori language as part of who we are, what makes us a nation and is a living language for everyone to enjoy and celebrate – everywhere, every way, everyone, and every day.

We are looking for people with the strategic drive and passion for te reo Māori to come join us in shaping the culture of our nation by leading the implementation of the Government's Māori Language Strategy, Te Maihi Karauna.

The Role

As the Senior Project Manager, you will provide leadership and support to a small Project Management Team, overseeing the design, implementation, and successful “end to end” delivery of projects.

You will implement high-quality business systems and solutions to a range of projects arising out of business challenges, ensuring project outcomes produce quality deliverables and benefits.

You will have a part to play in driving and supporting change along with the strategic direction of Te Taura Whiri. In return you will have an opportunity to make a tangible difference to our organisation and to the culture of Aotearoa New Zealand.

About You

You are a motivated self-starter who thrives in an agile environment and is not afraid to challenge the status quo. You will bring a collaborative style to your work and excel in relationship management, influencing and engaging at all levels of an organisation.

With a minimum of 7 years' experience in Project Management you have demonstrated success in leading and guiding projects and stakeholders toward successful delivery.

A creative and analytical thinker with the ability to quickly solve problems and overcome obstacles.

An excellent communicator with the skills and experience to share complex information and facilitate a variety of focus groups and development workshops, to a range of audiences.

Ideally you will already have a proficiency in and an understanding of tikanga Māori and te reo Māori. If you are just a starter on that journey and have a willingness to learn, we would still welcome your application.

What we offer

  • An organisation shaping Aotearoa by using Māori language revitalisation to drive positive social change.
  • An organisation committed to providing everybody with a safe learning environment for te reo Māori.
  • An organisation that operates in a te ao Māori context.
  • An organisation that is open to flexible working arrangements.
