Job Description

Opportunity to utilise your strong policy and analytical skills to make a difference for older New Zealanders using health and disability services.

Come and join a skilled and committed team.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity for an experienced Senior Policy Advisor to shape the inaugural Aged Care Commissioner’s work programme and make a real difference for older people and their whānau.

The primary purpose of the Senior Policy Advisor role is to provide high quality analysis and trusted strategic and policy advice to the Aged Care Commissioner and to lead the Aged Care Commissioner’s policy work programme.

The Health and Disability Commissioner (HDC) promotes and protects the rights of people using health and disability services. The Aged Care Commissioner has recently been appointed within HDC to advocate on behalf of older people and their whānau for better services in the health and disability system, provide greater oversight of New Zealand’s aged care sector, and support quality improvement and the Government’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Extensive experience at a senior level in policy analysis and development
  • An in-depth understanding of the machinery of government and a proven ability to build trust with decision-makers
  • Knowledge about the health and disability services for older New Zealanders and an interest in the wellbeing of older people in Aotearoa
  • An understanding of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, and the aims and aspirations of Māori
  • A proven ability to develop networks and build trusted relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • A well-developed ability to synthesise, critically analyse and interpret complex information
  • The ability to convey complex information clearly and succinctly, and in a manner that meets the needs of the audience
  • A proven ability to provide evidence-based advice that strategically considers broader issues and implications
  • Project management skills and the ability to manage time and meet deadlines
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification

If you're keen to see the direct impact that your contribution can have for the health and disability sector, this is your opportunity to see the positive outcomes first hand. Apply now if you're ready to make a difference.
