What is the opportunity?

RBC Bank is hiring a Senior Manager, Operational Risk.  In this role, you will act as the key contact for business units with respect to the completion of Risk Control Self-assessments (RCSAs), risk assessments for new or amended products, projects and initiatives and product reassessments. Managing the coordination of risk assessment discussions with functional business partners, you will also ensure that the business clearly articulates risks and controls and weights the inherent and residual risk ratings appropriately; assists the business with understanding risk management; manages the risk assessment pipeline; tracks approval conditions to completion; and escalates any issues to senior management.  Additionally, you will manage a direct report who is responsible for control design, effectiveness, and documenting control gaps and deficiencies, and will provide critical support to the Director, Operational Risk.  You will ensure that opportunities to improve upon optimization and efficiencies are identified.

What will you do?  

• Acts as a risk Subject Matter Expert in Operational Risk, and actively supports the business units with their product risk reviews, programs, initiatives and projects by providing guidance and direction on risk identification and compensating mitigants or controls, including the need for modeling or testing where required
• Ensures business units understand, document and escalate risks through the risk assessment process, including those associated with another line of business or RBC entity for the benefit of P&CB or the Enterprise
• Partners with each of the applicable Three Lines of Defence risk partners to understand risks and emerging issues, ensuring they are properly articulated and reported
• Responsible for the risk assessment pipeline, ensuring risk assessments are completed, and approval conditions are recorded and tracked to completion
• Completes RCSAs where required, ensuring control deficiencies or gaps are surfaced for action.
• Contributes to the enhancement and monitoring of the control environment for RBC Bank by documenting Key Controls
• Assists in Scenario Analysis workshop activities to provide feedback, meet required timelines and obtain approvals as needed. 
• Assists the Director, Operational Risk with day-to-day operations, providing back-up support where required; and
• Ensures procedures and process maps are up-to-date and reviewed as required in accordance with applicable policies 

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

• College Bachelor’s Degree or Higher
• 7+ years of banking experience (Example: Operational Risk Manager, Lead Auditor or Compliance Officer)
• Experience with data analytics, process design, and mapping
• Leader’s mindset for vision and strategy development
• Solid understanding of Operational Risk, control design, testing and documentation
• Expertise in regulatory requirements related to deposits, loans, and mortgage
