What is the opportunity?
The primary responsibility of the role is to apply a broad knowledge of accounting, financial and business principles to oversee operational finance processes and enable business partners across all platform/segment lines of business and legal entities. The position will promote consistency and effectiveness of practice; drive efficiencies through innovation and process redesign; plan for and measure productivity; develop, maintain and enhance operational resiliency to ensure continued operations.
What will you do?
• Ensure satisfactory governance and effective control mechanisms are in place to comply with standard accounting principles and strategic priorities of the Insurance platform predicated on sustainable knowledge and capability and minimizing exposure to risk of financial loss, misstatement or non-compliance with policy and/or process
• Lead the investigation, assessment and remediation of process gaps at risk of causing financial write-offs and misstatement of financials
• Hold the end-to-end accountability for account reconciliations and attestations, escalations from enterprise partners and platform Finance group. Includes oversight of the day-to-day operations of the general ledger processing activities including G/L postings, fraud monitoring, suspense account management, wires management
• Accountable for building COE capability and sustainability including the development and delivery of process and procedure documentation, fully trained staff and safeguarding controls
• Lead provision of required material and responses for multiple audits throughout the year (i.e. Interim Legal Entity, Year-End Legal Entity, SOX, etc…)
• Lead and assign appropriate level of process, system and business support to all types of change initiatives/projects driven by or impacting the Insurance organization. This includes, but is not limited to Technology Projects, Product Launches/enhancements, Audits, LSS initiatives, Regulatory projects, Transformational initiatives, RBC Enterprise initiatives.
• Promote and lead operational effectiveness through regular coaching, employee engagement, performance feedback and the development of a consistency of practice and routine discipline that is enablement-based (e.g. expense management; fiscal planning etc.)
What will you need to succeed?
• CA or CMA designation
• 5+ years direct financial experience
• 5+ years in an operational leadership role
• Strong leadership and relationship building skills
• Working knowledge of audit, compliance and operational risk controls
• Strong project management knowledge and development life cycle
