Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The Sr. Manager, Data Engineering is responsible for designing and applying proper data architecture to optimize our ability to access and leverage data. The incumbent will create data pipelines to transform raw data, stored in a wide range of repositories, into useable datasets to enable a talented team of data scientists and data analysts to work efficiently. This role requires collaboration with internal stakeholders as well as Fraud IT to translate business requirements into technical designs that achieve the goals established in our data strategy. Additionally, this role will act as the administrator for all data assets within Fraud Management.

What will you do? 

Lead the development of a Robust Analytics Environment which will enable Data Science & Analytics colleagues to conduct experiments, insights and analytics work more efficiently.

Create data pipelines that transform raw data into useable datasets, working with data in HDFS, object storage services (i.e. S3), ElasticSearch, traditional relational databases.

Manage curated data sets that act as building blocks for multiple analytic pursuits and develop automated job scheduling tasks to ensure execution is resilient.

Contribute to the development of the DSA data strategy and deliver real world benefits through implementation.

Work closely with Fraud IT to understand current state architecture and offer opinions on more effective data storage designs. Build efficient data pipelines that reduce the overall replication of data and optimize storage of our data assets.

Manage all AD groups as the admin role within Ranger and partner with the Fraud Data Strategy team to implement access controls, down to the data element level.

Create and maintain robust documentation that captures the data structure, permission controls and users within AD groups.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

3+ years practical data engineering experience

Experience with Hadoop/Hive/Spark/Scala or other big-data platform technology/tools

Strong coding skills (Python, PySpark, SQL, etc.)

Strong understanding of version control (Git/GitHub)

Experience with Cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, OpenShift)

Effective communication and collaboration skills

Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline

Exceptional time management and organizational skills; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Strong problem solving, research and quantitative skills

Nice-to-have

Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is an asset

Experience with data governance tools (i.e. Collibra) is an asset

Knowledge of Canadian Banking and payment industry, payments transaction data and financial fraud

Graduate degree in a quantitative discipline
