What is the opportunity?
You will take a role in the development and enhancement of the Loyalty and Rewards technology platform. Key responsibility of this position is participating in architecture, analysis, design, coding and testing of the new and existing systems. The systems are orchestration layers, so you need to possess knowledge and experience in data management and integration with upstream and downstream services.
Reporting to the Development Manager you will work very closely with him on the technical architecture and associated development activities.
What will you do?
Articulate and document the technical design of an application to support the associated business requirements.
Partner with DevOps, infrastructure and business teams in order to design solutions and resolve business system issues (i.e. workflow solutions, troubleshooting, technical interfaces, software issues, production support, etc.).
Work closely with members of the development and QA teams to review requirements and implement solutions.
Participate in meetings, provide input to presentations, and provides consulting services to business partners and BAs.
Prepare high level and detailed technical specifications for the project in accordance with SDLC, security and architecture documentation objectives.
Participate in walkthrough reviews of specifications and technical designs.
Work with Development Manager, other teammates, vendors (internal and external) and other IT teams to design and implement downstream and upstream interfaces to the application.
As a Java Developer, you will be responsible for designing and developing in mid-tier backend applications to rewrite, maintain and add functionality to RBC’s Rewards application.
Perform technical design and implementation of RBC Rewards application.
Review requirements, wireframes, and designs for technical feasibility, then work with the team to translate these into user stories that can be implemented.
Improve product quality through code reviews, writing effective unit tests, and collaborating with QA to implement automation testing where appropriate.
Must haves:
Minimum 4 to 6 years of experience developing enterprise applications in Java
Hands on experience with projects on Spring Boot, Java 1.8. This is an absolute must have.
Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Data, Spring Security
Experience with streaming Platforms (Apache Kafka, Apache Spark etc.)
Experience developing Java/JEE applications (Java 1.8, REST Web Services, Spring Boot, API/ Microservices Design, Web Services, Docker)
Experience designing, developing, securing and consuming Web services (Restful and SOAP-based services).
Experience working with Microservices architecture
Experience working with Cloud Deployment, Agile development, CICD, API/ Microservices Design understanding, loyalty or payments ecosystem understanding.
Solid understanding of OOP
Knowledge of design patterns (MVC, Strategy, Factory, Singleton) and general design understanding.
Knowledge of API security patterns: OAuth, SSL/TLS
Experience with relational databases (MSSQL, etc.) and caching mechanisms (Redis)
Proficient understanding of SCM tools and best practices (GIT, Maven, Gradle, Jenkins).
Candidate should have an analytical mindset to be able to review and contribute to user requirements and design and develop highly efficient code for high-volume, mission-critical systems
Nice to have:
Experience in banking environment or mobile payments space
Knowledge of other development stack in Mobile or Web space.
