What you will do

You will be a trusted advisor to the executive team and senior managers within Joint Defence Services; this portfolio includes Security, IT and Commercial services to name a few. You will be responsible for shaping, creating and delivering the workforce and HR strategies and plans within a large, complex organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Being a catalyst for change and organisational development in support of overall NZDF strategy;
  • Identifying complex strategic issues and delivering tangible outputs that support achievement of shared business goals;
  • Integrating an enterprise/system wide view of the workforce and business environments to identify the HR initiatives and effective solutions; and
  • Supporting the delivery of workforce and HR strategies for NZDF, leveraging plans and initiatives from outside and across NZDF for your portfolio's benefit.

What we need

You will be an expert in supporting workforce and HR strategy development and delivery, with an ability to effectively engage with a variety of stakeholders across a variety of units. In particular, your ability to drive change and influence key decision makers will be key to your success.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrable experience in the application of organisational development and change management methodologies;
  • Proven relationship and influencing skills with expert communication skills to ensure understanding;
  • Flexibility and agility to react to a changing environment and priorities; and
  • Experience identifying risks or issues with business initiatives and responding proactively.

Who we are

The Office of the Chief of Staff, People Capability Portfolio (PCP) primary role is to support the Chief People Officer (CPO) draw together the functions that enable the Defence Force to manage its people as a key strategic resource.

This includes the delivery of high quality policy advice, driving organisational capability and exercising strategic leadership. The Office of the Chief of Staff (OoCOS), supports the CPO's decision-making and immediate office management including supporting the NZDF obligations to the Government by ensuring accurate, concise, coordinated and timely advice, provision of workforce planning, leading learning and development in Defence and fostering quality recruitment and developing future youth.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
