This is where you come in: In this role on our Design Platform team, you’ll help us scale product design across the organization to deliver better, more consistent experiences for our customers.

You’ll also facilitate the discovery and development of design best practices across the organization, and manifest these through components, patterns and guidelines within our design system, contribution process, design tooling and education programs.

About Design Platform at RBC

The Design Platform team facilitates the co-creation and documentation of the systems, tools and frameworks that enable design at scale. We’re part of the team helping to operationalize design at RBC.

As a Senior Front-End Developer on the Design Platform Team, you will work with the team to collaboratively design, develop and communicate about UI components for re-use in digital products across RBC. You will also be responsible for consulting with other design teams, development teams and product groups to identify and solve for systems-level problems.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Knowledge Sharing and Learning

• Lead the training of developers across RBC by coordinating internal and external seminars and workshops
• Liaise with the Digital Talent Squad to bring in external programs/vendors for training and development
• Foster a culture of self-improvement and learning by encouraging developers to leverage their “10%” chapter time for innovation
• Lead meetings and activities that enable cross-squad and cross-journey knowledge sharing to solve common problems
• Represent RBC (attend and present at) external and internal technical conferences

Operational and Systems Design

• Build and maintain a design system for multiple brands and platforms
• Guide team members with advice and techniques that improve their understanding and mastery of design systems and design operations
• Inform best practices and development guidelines across the Design and Digital organization
• Determine strategies for enabling the collection, refinement, governance and distribution of shared patterns and components
• Inform measurement practices for determining the efficacy of UI components
• Ensure that components meet high standards of accessibility and inclusivity

Technical Leadership

• Work within an Agile product team comprising technical, product and business team members to deliver exceptional products
• Research and influence industry trends within your chapter’s competency and ensure that Digital is using the best available tools and techniques
• Establish technical standards and best practices for journeys and squads
• Drive innovation with chapter members through meetings and activities (code reviews, demos, meetups, conferences, etc.)

Relationships and Communications

• Act as a trusted technical partner to the Digital business by providing guidance and technical direction
• Maintain relationships with developers and teams across T&O and P&CB to help prioritize and drive Digital objectives
• Distill technical details into human terms with excellent communication skills
• Build relationships with stakeholders and across teams
• Grow the RIG Community by supporting adoption of re-usable components across teams and lines of business'.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

• 5+ years of experience combined in Programming, Saas/ PaaS applications, front-end engineering, test-driven development, and architecture design principles
• Strong ability and proven experience in building and developing a high performing team/culture, and a strong inclination for continuous learning and growth (e.g., keeping up to date on latest technology trends, industry research)
• Experience building components for design systems in delivering exceptional front-end components
• Strong communication, workshop facilitation, problem-solving/probing skills with ability to build relationships, lead teams, and actively collaborate with cross-organization teams
• Track record of anticipating and designing solutions to overcome technical problems
• Built or significantly improved large technological areas or architecture initiatives
