Job Summary

The Senior Engineer has a long-standing and highly focused specialism within their chosen discipline and is responsible for providing the highest quality technological solutions that address business requirements.  The Senior Engineer has previously held a similar level position and can demonstrate a wealth of high level experience and subject knowledge. The Senior Engineer closely collaborates with their team members and provides specialist advice in conjunction with the Head of Discipline to the management to facilitate and advise on continued departmental growth.

The successful candidate will be based in our Dubai office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fundamental in driving up the technical standards and capabilities of the company
  • Collaborates with colleagues and management to review departmental progress and technical needs
  • Within chosen specialism, consistently researches technological developments and cascades information down to the team and up to the management
  • Assists the Head of Discipline in the design, updating and implementation of thorough training programs at all levels
  • Works closely with the Head of Discipline in identifying the suitability of existing inventory of kit in the warehouse and making appropriate recommendations
  • Training and supervising Engineers, Technicians and Crew on operation of equipment and through tasks
  • Working as part of team on and off site
  • Configuring equipment at exceptional levels
  • Having an advanced understanding/knowledge of all equipment and keeping up-to-date with the latest fixtures and technology within the industry, learns new equipment quickly and teaches the team how to operate, hang and inspect them properly
  • Leading by example and maintaining a consistent performance at all times
  • Interacting directly with clients on site in a customer-oriented manner
  • Running shows of all sizes, both operation and site management, and leading a team of Technicians and Crew on site
  • Running a project and team at department level in the absence of a Project Manager or Head of Discipline
  • Having a thorough understanding of the department's equipment, assists Project Managers in planning for projects and the specification of equipment, with an emphasis on matching a creative brief
  • Actively offers substitutions or alternatives and additional ideas, where possible or necessary, through extensive stock knowledge, without compromising the creative elements of the project
  • Produces pre-production paperwork to the highest quality standards, including but not limited to plots (2D & 3D), design renders, DMX patches, network schematics, power hook-ups and electrics load calculations, whenever necessary
  • Cleaning, testing, maintaining, prepping and repairing equipment prior to job
  • Monitoring and repairing equipment during shows and any required fault finding
  • Identifying and correcting equipment failures according to set standards
  • Performing repairs up to and including high-end equipment depending on severity of issue
  • Building and installing equipment on site unsupervised, according to designated layout
  • Setting up and operating systems/equipment
  • Loading and unloading of equipment
  • Cleaning of equipment after shows and storing properly
  • Rigging and de-rigging of all equipment safely
  • Performing annual inventory of equipment as per the set procedures in place
  • Adhering to health and safety regulations and wearing appropriate PPE
  • Reporting all health and safety issues to the Health and Safety Manager, line manager and/or Project Manager on site

Required Education and/or Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong written and spoken English
  • Technical degree, or related on-the-job experience
  • Customer service oriented
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Advanced problem solving and fault-finding skills
  • Advanced Leadership skills
  • Good understanding of safety and HSE guidelines/working at height
  • Ability to read and understand technical plans

 

Required Experience:

  • Experience in a similar role
  • Previous event industry experience
  • Good understanding of events and event technology
  • Competency in using MS Office applications
  • Proven leadership qualities with many years of practical experience (including running shows of all sizes, and managing a small team of technicians in the set-up and operation of large scale events)
  • Over 8 years of experience in specialised field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the industry with minimum 8 years operating experience
  • Exceptional understanding of Audio-related computing including audio analysis software, system control and networking, Also, includes good understanding of phase, time alignment and speaker coverage
  • Highly advanced understanding of which mics to use including RF mics and their operation. This applies to polar patterns, mic sensitivities, and frequency response
  • Highly advanced understanding of audio hardware and cabling related to complex jobs including ability to lead, plan, and work with diagrams and wiring plans for lighting/audio and 3-phase power plots
