Recent projects include:
Forecasting market prices, marginal loss factors and network curtailment risk for numerous existing and prospective new entrant power stations,
Assessing impacts of new transmission network investments,
Providing detailed assessments of storage technologies investigating their respective business cases, impact on network operation and impact on FCAS markets,
Undertaking market due diligence and market modelling to support clients during high-profile transactions, and
Investigating the impacts on the electricity market by changing market rules or Government policy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Applying comprehensive modelling tools and software to deliver forecasting services relating to electricity and supporting essential system services (ESS) market prices, marginal loss factors and network curtailment risk for numerous existing and prospective new entrant power stations,
- Assessing technical options and impacts of new transmission network investments,
- Analysing the economic and financial benefits of implementing large transmission network augmentation/upgrades.
- Providing detailed assessments of storage technologies investigating their respective business cases, impact on network operation and impact on FCAS/ESS markets,
- Enhancing government and consumer understanding of residential electricity price trends through knowledge sharing,
- Investigating the impacts on the electricity market by changing market rules or Government policy,
- Assisting relevant clients make informed decisions on energy asset acquisitions/disposals based on the electricity market behaviour, regional electricity prices, capacity mix and other relevant factors,
- Providing electricity market analysis to support business decisions.
Skills and attributes for success:
To qualify for the role, you must have:
- Post graduate degree in discipline such as engineering, mathematics, economics, physics, computer science or the equivalent of approximately 4-5 years of work experience in an energy related field.
- A strong understanding of the energy sector and electricity markets.
- A base knowledge and experience in the main Australian and New Zealand Electricity Markets including the structure, key value drivers and rules relevant to the ongoing investment in and operation of the electricity markets.
- High numeracy levels with demonstrated experience in manipulating, querying, investigating and finding meaning in large data sets efficiently, with the ability to deal with ambiguities within data,
- Proficiency with application of mathematical software and programming languages including Excel, Microsoft VBA, Matlab, SQL and Python,
- The ability to employ best practice in applying data visualisation tools, and
- Strong communication skills with the ability to successfully collaborate and convey meaningful insights to clients and colleagues.
