What is the opportunity?

RBC’s Payments team is on an exciting journey to modernize the way RBC and Canada will complete payments. The future of payments will look much different in the years to come and we are just getting started. The modernization of the payment will have real-time integration and span over multiple internal and external systems that will result in more secure and faster payment. Many new initiatives to come that will change the landscape for payments. As the Senior Cloud Developer, you will participate in development on assigned programs/projects within Payments Modernization – Real-Time Rails Delivery, to ensure program/project strategic goals or objectives are accomplished within approved time frames, scope and budget. Please note that we have multiple openings on the team.

What will you do?

• Be part of a team creating new services and customer-facing applications using the latest technologies which will shape the future of banking for RBC; Develop and support highly scalable, high performance APIs within an Agile development team comprised of technical, product and business team members to deliver exceptional products
• Development of new or significant changes to application initiatives/processes
• Provide engineering & integration guidance to development team
• Facilitate schedule and cost forecasting and mentor developers in finding risk based provisions
• Seek out industry trends and organization knowledge to provide alternative approaches / solutions
• Deliver small to medium-sized well-defined tasks, working individually or pairing with others and you have a small amount of experience in a well-defined area
• Ensure high code quality through automated unit and functional testing
• Design and develop code structures based on technical design defined by the team

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

• Computer Science degree or equivalent
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication.
• Cloud development (opt. Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Red Hat OpenShift) and Java development background
• Experience working in a SAFe, Kanban, DEVOPS, or Agile/Scrum development methodology
• Experience with Git and creating and manipulating YAML files
• Experience with API and Micro Service Development (esp. using SpringBoot)

Nice-to-have

• Ability to build Akka application using Scala and or Java
• Knowledge of Kafka, MySQL, Non-relational databases.
• Knowledge of major architectures style (message oriented, reactive, event based)
• Micro-service design and implementation (load balancing, discovery, resiliency)
• Experience with MongoDB
• Experience with Dynatrace        
• Experience with Apache Kafka, Apache Camel
