Job Description
The Senior Analyst is a member of the NBIN Risk team that is responsible for operational risk oversight within NBIN. Operational risk is comprised of fraud risk, information security risk, execution risk, legal risk, regulatory risk, business continuity risk, and IT business interruption risk. The tasks that are performed vary greatly and are grouped into monitoring, reporting, analysis, and support activities.
A successful candidate will need to have strong analytical and problem-solving skills supported by knowledge of brokerage operations.
The Senior Analyst will report to the Manager of NBIN Risk.
Key Accountabilities
- Perform an operational risk oversight of NBIN processes through various tasks and activities. For example:
- Conduct due diligence reviews on new and existing clients
- Investigate fraud and privacy breaches
- Conduct AML transaction monitoring
- Respond to enquires and provide risk guidance to our clients and internal partners
- Perform Operational Event reporting
- Review and approve policy exceptions
- Monitor U.S. resident trading
- Monitor error and comfort deposit accounts
- Review hypothecation and investment product setup requests
- Complete third-party due diligence questionnaires submitted by clients
- Coordinate requests for audit related documentation as requested by clients
- Liaise with internal partners such as Compliance, Legal, Operations, and Wealth Management Risk
- Lead and/or assist with various projects related to process improvements, audit, and other regulatory requirements
- Work with internal partners to create or improve policies, procedures, and controls
- Prepare communication and training material on related policy and procedures for NBIN employees and clients
Competencies Required
- 5+ years experience within the financial brokerage industry in an IIROC regulatory environment
- University degree and/or CFA designation
- Canadian Securities Course (CSC); Conduct and Practices Handbook Course (CPH)
- Knowledge of brokerage operations and back-office processes (account opening, trading, settlement, transfers, security deposits, etc.)
- Experience in writing policies and procedures
- Familiarity with brokerage operating systems such as ISM/OSS, AS400, and iMOST
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and presentation skills
- Expert knowledge of Excel (working with large data sets, macros, pivot tables, etc.), Word and PowerPoint
- Ability to create efficiency, optimize, add value, and go above and beyond in normal duties
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Legal and/or compliance background, an asset
- French is an asset, but not required
