As a well-seasoned People and Culture Advisor looking for their next career move, you will be responsible for nurturing and partnering with our Leaders and teams to support in organisational and capability development. Working collaboratively with our teams and their Leaders across the Ministry, you will support in providing HR advice in how to recognise and encourage people capability - partnering with leaders to guide them through HR processes, procedures and promote HR practices that ensure our teams can aspire and deliver valued services to our Pacific People.

Each day might look like the following:

  • As Senior Advisor People and Culture, you will be building leadership capability and support Ministry staff to be a high performing organisation and a great positive place to work - encouraging collaboration and a collective way of working.
  • You will provide strategic HR advice to our leadership teams to support them to lead their teams to meet their business objectives - ensuring our public sector responsibilities are followed in a meaningful way.
  • Bring a solid generalist HR capability and partnering approach to guide senior leaders to develop and implement specific people and workforce strategies and initiatives.

The Ministry for Pacific Peoples make a significant contribution to improving outcomes for Pacific People. We bring the Pacific voice, perspective and understanding into the fabric of New Zealand government. We are the guardians and the caretakers of Pacific knowledge, culture, and identity, and we support and take stewardship over our Pacific communities and peoples. We have a key role in developing cross-government collaboration and coordination of government's Pacific investments.

As a Senior Advisor, you will bring the following:

  • Well-demonstrated experience in HR best practices - ideally within New Zealand government - an understanding of public sector accountabilities and government policies and procedures that ensure people capability and performance objectives
  • Great planning skills and an ability to advise, develop and implement solid HR practices that ensure effective and ongoing development of the Ministry's organisational capability and people performance
  • Identify appropriate HR practises, policies and tools that will enable the Ministry to achieve its strategic goals and vision and lead the implementation of processes to support these
  • Partner with our Leaders and Managers across the Ministry to support in people leadership and management, performance management, learning and growth opportunities and support our learning and development advisor to promote the right options to develop our people
  • Experience in evaluating HR initiatives and making recommendations for improvement to ensure best practice and effectiveness of the initiatives
  • Professional experience and/or qualifications that align with delivering HR services across the business
  • Existing relationships across external providers and across other government agencies to leverage New Zealand government HR best practices
  • A natural and comfortable alignment with our Pacific Lalanga Fou goals and Pacific competencies - we work collectively and in collaboration
  • Highly motivated, self-directed and performance-driven, bringing an enthusiastic and confident approach to your work
