The Animal Imports team is responsible for developing and maintaining import health standards for animals, animal germplasm and animal products. Import health standards enable safe trade by managing biosecurity risks. The team has a strong collegial work ethic and supports each other to deliver high-quality and timely outputs for their stakeholders and the biosecurity system.

This Senior Adviser position will suit someone with a veterinary or related qualification. It has responsibility for import standards, with the opportunity to work in various portfolio areas of interest across the wide portfolio range the team is responsible for. The Senior Adviser will develop, implement, and review import health standards in accordance with international principles and standards, negotiate certificates relating to these standards at a bilateral level, operate the import permit system, and be the primary point of contact for managing non-conforming import consignments and other import implementation issues.

 To be successful in this position you will ideally bring the following:

• A veterinary or related science degree and experience
• An analytical, adaptable, logical and flexible approach
• Aptitude to develop, implement and review standards, requirements and systems
• Experience in planning and managing projects
• The ability to successfully liaise with various stakeholders, including government departments, councils and technical experts
• Excellent communication and organisational skills, and the capacity for active team collaboration
• A high level of accuracy and reliability
