Incredible artwork is created at secondary school level. More often than not, student art folios, filled with fabulous works, end up in a deep, dark corner of parents’ garages or in the school skip. The Creators’ Room, (which launched in Ōtautahi in 2018) is a youth development programme available to young creatives aged 15-18 years to showcase their work and connect with our community of collectors.
Young creatives face a number of barriers when taking the first leap to publicly showcase their artwork. Many lack the confidence, resources and funding to create and present their work at professional level and have limited ways to connect with the wider arts community. The Creators’ Room assists to break down these barriers by providing upfront financial support, through the purchase and professional framing of the original artworks, as well as funding the reproduction of limited edition prints. The works are then made available to the public via our online marketplace and an annual exhibition, with all profits going directly to the artists.
While the programme has previously only been available to secondary school students in Waitaha (Canterbury), we are now rolling the programme out nationwide starting with the Wellington region.
