Mō te tūnga | About the role

We are seeking a Psychologist to join our new mental health team based at Rimutaka Prison. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the landscape of Mental Health service provision within Ara Poutama Aotearoa for years to come. As a Psychologist, you will be working as part of the Intervention and Support Practice team, dedicated to providing high quality mental health support and treatment to the most vulnerable people in our care. Your role as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team will be to provide psychological services to enhance the mental health and wellbeing of people in our care.

Effective clinical caseload management will include psychological triage, assessment and evidence informed treatments that are aligned to best practice mental health service provision.   A key component of your role will be promoting the delivery of holistic and recovery-oriented health services across the prison environment.  Our teams are committed to modelling expert clinical practice and ensure a strong focus on Humanising and Healing - respecting the human dignity and inherent mana of all people in our care, and their whānau.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

We invite applications from qualified individuals who are truly aligned with our kaupapa and who can evidence within a cover letter how they meet the following lead requirements:

• NZ Psychologist registration with a Masters' Degree in Psychology (Clinical or Counselling);
• Demonstrable experience providing psychological assessment and evidence-based treatment;
• Experience or a strong willingness to work with Kaupapa Māori frameworks and services;
• Clear and concise communication skills – both written and verbal; and
• Strong people engagement, relationship-building and collaboration skills.

The salary range for this position is $76,860 - $117,300 dependent on skills and experience.

COVID-19 vaccination requirements

All people working inside prisons are required to be fully vaccinated as part of the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order 2021. People in prison are some of the most vulnerable to COVID-19 and due to the ease of transmission, extending the Vaccination Order supports the safety and wellbeing of our staff and people in prison.
