The High Impact Innovation Programme (HIIP) is a cross-sector group that delivers operational improvements across the criminal justice system in partnership with government agencies and Māori and through investing in community capability.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

The purpose of the Project Manager role is to plan, manage and lead various business orientated projects to successful outcomes in often highly visible and complex environments across the Criminal Justice Sector. Most projects conducted are inter-agency or in partnership with iwi, hapÅ« and NGOs, therefore expertise in stakeholder engagement and influencing without authority is critical to success. 

This role requires senior project management expertise, including proven success in leading and delivering complex projects or programmes of work.  Managing the end-to-end project lifecycle, you will ensure all project management, administration, planning, budgeting and reporting requirements are adhered to, in line with agreed project management disciplines and the Department's project management methodology.

  • Demonstrable experience and involvement in the development and delivery of projects - with full accountability for best practice project management disciplines;
  • Current experience working collaboratively with external partners is essential, including Justice Sector partners (Police, MoJ, Oranga Tamariki) and non-government partners;
  • Cultural competence – demonstrable understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi requirements and Crown-Māori relations;
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills – including the ability to establish professional relationships, and influence and build consensus to achieve outcomes;
  • Proven ability to operate in an agile and future focussed manner whilst ensuring current priorities are being achieved;
  • Demonstrable written and verbal communication skills – the ability to clearly and effectively communicate technical info to both technical and non-technical audiences; and
  • Strong collaboration skills – a motivated team-player with a willingness to guide and mentor more junior colleagues.
