Job Description

RBC Ventures is a new kind of business – one that marries the strength of one of the world’s most trusted and successful financial institutions with a mission to reimagine the role we play in people’s lives – to move RBC ‘beyond banking’. We’re building a world-class organization focused on designing exceptional experiences, exploring new business models and creating exponential value. In 2020, we were named by Fast Company as one of the 100 Best Workplaces for Innovators and we’re looking for team members with the curiosity to explore, the capabilities to build and capacity to help us deliver our mission.

About Mydoh

Started in 2019, Mydoh is committed to helping Canadian parents raise money-smart kids. As part of the RBC Ventures portfolio, Mydoh began with the shared belief that money management isn’t something you are taught, as much as something you learn through experience—and that experience should start early. Kids learn money basics through Mydoh Play, learn to earn their money through Tasks, and can learn to spend what they earn wisely using their Mydoh Smart Card. Parents can see their kids’ spending activity and be as involved as they want to be. Check us out at https://www.mydoh.ca/

What is the opportunity?

We’re looking for a Product Designer for Mydoh. This individual will play a critical role in supporting the creation and governance of our new design system, as well as pushing design, creativity, and technical innovation for our mobile app for both the parent and child experience. They will work closely with the entire product team to move the venture forward, and heavily collaborate with other designers, developers, customer success, and our marketing team. We’re looking for someone who is systems-minded and can apply design thinking and/or human-centred design methodologies within their day-to-day work. The ideal candidate will actively contribute to User Research (foundational, generative, and evaluative), interaction models and user flows, prototyping, and visual interface design at a systems and micro level. We’re especially looking for someone who can instinctively weave iconography, typography, colour, space, texture, and sound together to simplify and improve how parents and children experience Mydoh across channels.

What will you do?

Support the team in applying qualitative and quantitative data to inform design decisions within our day-to-day work

Work within our agile team structure to provide quality assurance on our design outputs

What do you need to succeed?

The knack to ask “why?”—you believe in purpose-driven decisions that are strategically informed to drive meaningful solutions to user problems and opportunities

A deep collaborative approach to solving challenges—you understand your gaps and work with others to move the product forward so everybody wins

Support for continuous and iterative improvement—you are comfortable with feedback cycles that are openly communicative and generous within one-on-one and large team settings

Being meticulous and detail-oriented—you advocate for beautiful visual design balanced with solid UX.

An adaptive mindset that is able to thrive in ambiguity

Nice-to-haves:

Experience in Banking or Financial Services

Experience in digital experiences for children and/or gaming experiences

A strong understanding of Accessibility and Inclusive Design practices.

Ability to generate high-fidelity illustrations and iconography based on brand guidelines

What’s in it for you?

We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. We care about each other, reaching our potential, making a difference to our communities, and achieving success that is mutual.

A comprehensive Total Rewards Program including bonuses and flexible benefits.

A dedicated manager who will support, coach, and work with you to develop an individual career growth plan
