We are looking for an Engineering Manager who can operate in a fast-paced environment, build a high functioning team, provide strong strategic leadership, solution & design thinking, customer focus, and the ability to deliver results. As the engine room for Teams, the Engineering Systems organization consists of a savvy group of generalizing specialists; we blend years of software engineering expertise with some of the newest and most popular tools, frameworks and methodologies to empower an entire organization to build great software. We love open source; React, Typescript, grunt, gulp, yarn, node and .NetCore are part of our everyday vocabulary, but we’re not dogmatic about technologies – the best tool for the job is always the right tool. We pride ourselves in building systems and tools which make our fellow engineers more productive every day and enable them to ship high quality code to our customers continuously. 

  

We are looking for a Product leader with people management experience to make Teams Engineering Systems world class. You will lead a team of engineers focusing on building our deployment systems, working with engineers from across the Teams ecosystem, partners and customers to deliver highly reliable tooling and infrastructure that make it easy for Teams developers to deliver high quality product to our customers. 

Responsibilities

  • Be a great manager, mentor, and leader of the group and broader organization. You will manage a group of engineers that are building the next generation capabilities for the Teams large scale deployment system for Teams desktop/web apps. 

  • Be customer obsessed. Understanding and anticipating the needs of our customers in a changing business and technology landscape is critical. 

  • Be a great engineer. You will be accountable to the design, implementation, schedule, delivery, of your team and services. Doing this in an efficient, maintainable way with emphasis on reliability and product performance as the top concern is a must. 

  • Champion best practices, tools and processes for a data-driven, quality-focused release of Microsoft Teams as frequently as possible to our customers 

  • Drive execution and demonstrate end-to-end ownership of complex, cross-group and cross-discipline projects to successful completion  

Qualifications

  • Extensive Software Engineering experience with track record of driving multiple products/versions from inception to delivery. 

  • Significant of hands-on experience in a technical leadership role; driving strategic projects and managing people in a product development environment 

  • Proven people management experience 

  • Ability to work in large teams and mentor new developers to the team 

  • Strong knowledge of computer science, algorithms and design patterns 

  • Ability to appreciate complex problems with a thorough design and collaborate with multiple partners on common goals. 

  • Proven success with cross-discipline and cross-team collaboration. 

  • Passionate about shipping secure, accessible, and world-ready applications that allow customers to be more inclusive and productive. 

  • Experience engaging with customers to determine requirements and iterate on existing features. 

  • A degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
