The Datapath and Transports team is working on building next generation networking platforms. We are investing in building open source cross-platform transports like MsQUIC, building high performance data paths including software optimizations and hardware offloads, enabling cross-platform service mesh using the open source Envoy proxy and also contributing core kernel level and API changes to improve TCP/IP.

Responsibilities

As a principal technical lead in our team, you will be responsible for the planning and execution in your areas of responsibility, producing and operating high quality and scale services, the growth of our team, and collaboration with partners. You will be hands-on in the development process which includes writing and reviewing designs, writing and reviewing production code, and supporting our live services. We are looking for an engineering leader, who thinks strategically, works pragmatically and with enthusiasm in a fast-moving environment with few guardrails. You will need strong customer empathy and an ability to focus our engineering efforts on customer requirements as well as Azure Edge business priorities.

Help shape the networking platform architecture based on customer requirements, industry trends, and competition.

Engage with leaders in the industry and developer community to help shape Internet evolution.   

Use your technical acumen to solve problems, turn requirements from these interactions into design and robust implementation and work with partners towards production deployment.  

Help support our in-market products and improve time to detect and time to mitigate measures.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent relevant work experience

5+ years of experience building reliable systems at scale which have been deployed in production

5+ years of experience with C, C++

12+ years of professional work experience

5 + experience in networking technologies – platform networking, container networking, Software Defined networking

Preferred Qualifications

Deep subject matter expertise in networking protocols like TCP/IP, QUIC, HTTP

Ability for setting and driving towards measurable goals and excellent collaboration skills

Experience in cloud development principles and patterns, particularly loosely coupled architectures and micro-services

Experience with Azure, AWS or GCP

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
