The Mobile and Modern Productivity Experiences (MMPX) - Phone team is looking for a highly motivated and innovative Principal Software Engineer to break new ground as we take our products to orders of magnitude higher scale and rock-solid reliability, build out the intelligence capabilities to dramatically deepen user engagement and create a great cross-device experience.  The “MMPX Phone” team at Microsoft is responsible for the YourPhone experiences (i.e. the app installed by default on Windows), the YourPhone services fabric, and Link-to-Windows Android experiences shipped on all Samsung phones, and a number of other exciting incubations and market expansions. 

Our mission it to help our customers achieve more by breaking the productivity limiting boundaries between devices (via cross-device features) and create seamless continuity between the Mobile and PCs.  Together with our partners, we are building engaging & differentiated cross device experiences across Windows PCs & Mobile Devices, strengthened by our best of breed expression of Mobile-first experiences on both 1st party & 3rd party hardware.

Responsibilities

Architect, design and build robust, scalable and efficient service and service delivered features that support millions of users. 

Service Infrastructure:  Evolve our modern service stack with the latest technologies & techniques. Drive broad adoption with proven, measurable impact across all our services.  

Technical Innovator - You dive deep into our current architecture, understanding systems of our design and the engineering trade-offs for improvements. You develop and evangelize architectural plans that balance customer requirements and business goals. You thrive on creating designs from ambiguous requirements and realize that innovative designs can create opportunity from this ambiguity. Make technology and design decisions to deliver performant experiences. 

Collaborator - You will work with partner teams, ICs, and team leads across the globe to influence the architectural design and evolution of our products.   You will take an end-to-end view across platform, application, and services layers to coordinate work across teams and ensure alignment with team business priorities.   

Customer Focused – You strive to understand customer requirements and the intent behind those requirements. You look to understand the implications of these requirements on both our architecture and all aspects of the MMX Phone products. Ensure the voice of the customer is a critical part of our path to success. 

You care deeply about growing people, are an excellent coach, and will be a strong mentor and role model for other employees looking to follow the IC/Architect path. 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science or related Engineering field 

1+ years leading architectural decisions at a Principal level. 

8+ years of coding and debugging skills in C#, C++ or Java 

Passion for building secure, compliance, scalable services. 

Experience with building Azure services and managing live sites. 

Track record of delivering innovation and results, leadership, and collaboration. 

Good problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically. 

Deep understanding of web and mobile technologies. 

Experience working on cross team/org projects. 

Familiarity with Cloud Security and Microsoft Azure stack is helpful.
