The Windows + Devices Connected Services & Experiences (W+D CSX) team is responsible for building and running the services that power more than 1 billion Windows devices, Windows Servers, and Windows VMs on Azure – empowering students, families, small businesses, and enterprises to achieve more globally. Our cross-functional teams of Software Engineers, Program Managers and Data Scientists keep devices connected, safe, and ever-improving. Windows Servicing & Delivery (WSD) is part of W+D CSX and is responsible for keeping the Windows ecosystem always up to date to ensure customers are protected and productive. The work encompasses engineering of changes to the Windows OS and working on the multitude of cloud services that are part of the robust pipeline required to efficiently deliver these changes to over a billion customers in consumer and enterprise scenarios across on-premises and cloud configurations.

The team provides opportunities in multiple areas of interest, spanning across operating system internals, scalable services for supporting the delivery of updates to a vast and heterogeneous ecosystem that’s constantly growing, and intelligent monitoring of the health of that ecosystem. There are also continuous efforts to improve internal engineering systems leveraged by the team, always considering industry standards to improve efficiency and agility of the team.

WSD provides programs and services to promote development agility, experience coherence & customer engagement and fuels growth in our security business through device and cloud innovations. 

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support code and infrastructure used for Windows.
• Building prototypes and proofs of concepts to drive architectural design
• Improve service fundamentals, including COGS reduction, testing, capacity planning, performance, reliability, and monitoring
• Demonstrated engineering leadership: e.g., proven experience in managing complex engineering projects, debugging live issues in critical customer situations, etc.
• Help define roadmap and technical strategy.
• This role will require deep partnership across the organization and with teams across Microsoft

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

10+ years of professional software development experience in either C, C++,  C# or Java

10+ years software engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to work well inside of a multidisciplinary global team as well as effectively collaborate with several software engineering teams across many organizations

• Experience in Win32 programming, Developer platform technologies, Windows Driver development and Windows debugging will be a great plus.

• BS (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related discipline preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
