The opportunity | Te Whiwhinga mahi

The Principal Service Designer is an important role within the design team. You will use your expertise to ensure design thinking is integrated into projects and improvement activities, to support the Agency to create an excellent transport system that meets the expectations and needs of all New Zealanders.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to and lead significant pieces of work. You will be an advocate for good design outcomes and support a variety of projects throughout the business, ensuring design assets are produced and delivered to the highest quality. You will be leading design assignments and service experience sprints to shape and deliver improvements to services and create better experiences across the transport system. You will also work closely with other less experienced designers in the team, supporting and mentoring them to develop their expertise.

You may come from any of a variety of backgrounds, but what is important is your ability to think and work strategically and be able to translate technical jargon into easily understood information.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven experience of delivering design thinking and service design projects of various sizes and complexity to deliver quality outcomes within time and budget constraints.
  • Significant practical experience using a broad range of human-centred design methods and approaches, particularly service proposition development, workshop facilitation, customer co-design and training.
  • Experience designing and delivering qualitative research
  • Proven track record in leading and inspiring project teams to deliver high quality, innovative outcomes in a complex organisation or consultancy environment.
  • Significant experience of scoping, planning and costing programmes of work.
  •  Experience and interest in mentoring othersRelevant tertiary qualification (e.g. design, business, psychology, social anthropology, etc) or equivalent relevant experience essential.
