The era of cloud-based enterprise attacks has arrived.  Nobelium, the nation state actor behind the 2020 SolarWinds cyberattack, shined a spotlight on how attackers will try to abuse cloud-based identity, applications, data, and services to gain access to enterprises including their emails and documents.  This new security frontier demands new defenses, customer solutions, and visionary leadership.  This is where you come in. 

The Security, Compliance, Identity, and Management Research team is hiring a research manager to own cloud protection strategy across Microsoft 365 Defender (M365D), Microsoft Defender for Office (MDO), Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps (MDA), App Governance (AppG), and Insider Risk (IRM).  This M2 role involves leading multiple teams in discovering and building cloud-related security tradecraft, developing prevention/detection/response capabilities across Microsoft enterprise security products, and applying machine learning and AI at unprecedented security scale and impact.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

• Lead multiple teams of strong researchers, data scientists, and engineers to deliver prevention, detection, and response capabilities across M365D, MDO, MDA, AppG, and IRM 
• Direct the team in the discovery and prioritization of cloud-based attacker tradecraft via internal development, engagement with the external security research community, and defense during real-world incidents 
• Scale product, researcher, Security Operation Center (SOC) capabilities through AI and expert systems 
• Develop and grow the people manager capabilities of your direct reports through leadership, coaching, modeling, and mentoring 
• Partner with product and engineering leaders throughout the organization to deliver new product features and capabilities  
• Attract, grow, and retain world class researcher talent 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or related experience 
• Knowledge and understanding of attacker tradecraft demonstrated through red/blue team operations, published security research, or security product research and development, preferably in a cloud-based context
• 3+ years of proven team leadership and people management experience 
• Excellent interpersonal skills and effective written/verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to senior-business leaders 
• Excellent cross-group collaboration, with the ability to articulate the business need and purpose for engineering changes 
• Experience leading or developing machine learning-based cybersecurity solutions highly desirable
