Your home will be the Tax Strategy team, which provides tax policy advice to the Ministers of Finance and Revenue, focusing on tax issues with the most significant economic and fiscal impacts for New Zealand.
Our team advises Ministers on how we can improve the fairness, sustainability, efficiency and integrity of our tax system, including advising on the significant impact that the tax system has on the living standards of New Zealanders. Recent areas of advice have included COVID-19 tax relief initiatives, changes to the tax treatment of housing, and the introduction of a top 39% rate of income tax.
Our team sits within the Economic System Directorate, which provides Ministers with advice on a wide range of economic issues including macroeconomic policy, financial markets, and overseas investment.
We are looking for an experienced policy professional to join the tax team and to work across the Directorate and the Treasury on cross-cutting economic policy challenges, with a particular focus on linking our tax policy advice to Treasury advice on fiscal and economic strategy.
