Principal Advisor Governance

About the Team

The Organisational Planning, Performance and Governance (OPPG) team provides important services to the Chief Executive, the Leadership Team, governance boards and the Minister in relation to organisational strategy, planning and decision making, governance and budget processes. 

 

About the Role

The Principal Advisor Governance will report to the Manager, Governance and Accountability. You will bring your thought leadership and your technical excellence in providing governance advice as well as your ability to influence for uptake and manage stakeholder relationships to ensure the Ministry's governance processes are well integrated and in line with best practice. 

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • provides a high level of quality advice regarding governance processes
  • assists with managing the Ministry's governance framework to ensure that the Ministry's governance committees and boards run smoothly
  • facilitates the Leadership Team's information flow to ensure they have what they need to make robust strategic and operational decisions to run the Ministry
  • reviews papers on behalf of committees to ensure they meet committee requirements and have the necessary information for the committees to make informed decisions  
  • provides secretariat support and pro-active management of governance committee meetings
  • ensures that governance decisions and the impact of governance decisions are communicated to and understood by the wider Ministry 
  • works with staff across the Ministry to build capability in the preparation of committee papers and the overall governance process.

 

About You

To be successful, you will be/have: 

  • excellent communication skills - demonstrates strong written skills and ability to communicate appropriately with the business 
  • proven ability to manage key relationships at a senior level 
  • a sound understanding of the corporate governance environment
  • a strong focus on quality and excellence
  • highly organized and able to self-manage.
