Our Adult Social Work team at Auckland DHB has a temporary full time role available (40 hours per week), for up to 12 months from 21/04/22.
About the role
In this role, you will hold a clinical caseload and provide clinical guidance and operational support to a small team of social workers working with patients and their families within the Stroke, Neurology, Rehabilitation and Older People’s Health wards at Auckland City Hospital. You will also join a small team of Social Work Practice Supervisors working in Adult health & Women’s
health.
While this role currently involves a Monday – Friday working week, it is possible that this will change to daytime rostered duties Monday – Sunday later in 2022.
You will work collaboratively with your team to prioritise case load whilst working from a patient centred perspective. You will be expected to work closely alongside other disciplines while forming an essential part of the interdisciplinary team in Ward 51 Auckland City Hospital. This recently opened integrated stroke, neurology and rehabilitation ward provides a state of the art environment for patients who can now stay in one place for their entire acute and rehab journey. As the Practice supervisor you will be involved in the process of shaping how we deliver care, as we strive to provide a world class service to our patients and whanau.
The second key area of Social Work clinical Practice Supervisor support covered by this role is Older People’s Health. We have 3 Social Workers working in OPH wards as part of inter disciplinary ward-based teams committed to providing excellent assessment, counselling, resourcing and discharge planning support to Older People and their family/whanau. You will assist in the management of the OPH Social Work team while managing your own small caseload.

About our team
The Stroke, Neurology, Rehabilitation and Older People’s Health Social Work team provides social work services to patients and their families who may be experiencing grief and loss associated with sudden or chronic injury, disability or ill health; a challenging diagnosis; end of life and sudden death. Their work also includes responding to family violence, elder abuse and neglect, child protection issues, patients lacking in capacity and patients presenting with treatment non-adherence.
About you
You will be an experienced Social Worker with full social work registration in New Zealand and have a strong understanding of Tikanga Maori. You will have an equally strong understanding of rehabilitation, grief and loss counselling support and family violence management. You will have significant health social work experience and proven supervision and leadership skills. Well-developed skills and knowledge in relation to working successfully with Maori, Pacific and other cultures will also be advantageous in this role.
