In this role, you'll support the sector's mission, which is mainly to offer various personal trust services for affluent clients as part of a comprehensive financial and estate plan. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Philantra and Private Foundations, you will act as an advisor on philanthropy-related matters involving administration, framework and standards.  As such, you will advise clients on the financial and fiscal feasibility of their donations and support them in the completion of their philanthropic projects.  You will also act as a reference on philanthropic projects for NBF and PB1859 professionals and their teams.  You will handle the administrative aspects of Philantra and the private foundations administered by National Bank Trust.

 This position can be based in Montreal or somewhere else in Canada depending on the employee selected.

 Your day-to-day tasks:

  • Handle all administrative and normative tasks for Philantra and the private foundations from a compliance and administrative perspective, including overseeing financial statements and information returns.
  • Understand and identify the risks related to the rollout of philanthropic activities.
  • Act as a tax expert for donations made while donors are alive and bequests.
  • Develop and manage a training program on donation planning for internal partners.
  • Interact with PB 1859 and NBF partners to follow up and answer specific administrative questions related to Philantra and private foundations.
  • Make sure donations to organizations meet regulatory and fund requirements and handle written and verbal communication between the parties.
  • Prepare the required documentation to ensure proper governance of the Philantra Foundation (yearly updates, Board meetings, etc.) and the private foundations (trustee committees, etc.)
  • Assist the account manager with the day-to -day administration of files.
  • Support the growth of the Philantra Foundation and the private foundations and the implementation of technological solutions.

  • Bachelor’s degree in law or in a related field and 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in accounting, finance and taxation
  • Experience in compliance analysis
  • Knowledge of philanthropy, an asset
  • Knowledge of the PB1859 sector and NBF, an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of Taxprep software, an asset
  • Independent, diligent and resourceful
  • Bilingualism, spoken and written (English and French)
