Enterprise Architecture and Technology Simplification is part of Group Technology and Customer Solutions. We influence the strategic plans of Bank of Ireland and drive the definition of the target architecture in order to radically simplify our estate, support our growth ambitions, become customer focused, and act in a responsible and balanced manner.

Purpose of the Role

The Domain Business Architect is closely aligned with one of the business units of Bank of Ireland, and in doing so bridges the gap between their business strategy and effective execution!

You will be instrumental advising, crafting and championing the strategic objectives within a business domain, aligning these to enterprise wide business and technology strategy, and leading business design activities from project start-up to execution and beyond.

Key Accountabilities

• Research and provide information on emerging technology trends, market disruptions and competitors' practices;
• Engage key business partners to identify business and technology-enabled innovation opportunities to grow revenue, optimise cost, maintain legislative compliance and mitigate risk;
• Build business models and roadmaps, and assess capability and process gaps between the current and future states;
• Construct results that enable the business to realise its strategic goals and business outcomes, including: strategy on a page; business capability modelling; investment roadmaps;
• Consults with technical SMEs to develop business solutions, advising on options, risks, costs versus benefits and impact on other business processes and system priorities;
• Take ownership for prioritising project business solutions post investment, working alongside Senior Project / Programme Management resources who will lead on overall project delivery;
• Develop ecosystem and business capability models, value stream and customer journey maps to help guide agile teams on their backlog of prioritised continuous delivery of business value;
• Work with Enterprise Architects, Technology Architects and others to define a strategic plan for demonstrating the Business Architecture and ensuring it is coordinated with Systems Architecture;
• Act as functional authority and business assurance lead for key projects and work across business and technical teams to ensure technology investment decisions deliver on business needs.

Crucial Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Engineering, Finance, Strategy or equivalent qualification

Crucial Skills & Experience

• Have the proficiency to engage with both technology and business partners at all levels.
• Credibility and confidence to engage with the most senior partners, including C-suite.
• Organisationally savvy, and understanding of how to navigate obstacles and politics.
• Ability to balance the long-term and short-term implications of individual decisions.
• Effective at driving short-term actions that are consistent with long-term goals.
• Knowledge and experience of Business Architecture methods (e.g. TOGAF, Business Model Canvas, BizBok) and practices (e.g. capability mapping, value proposition design etc.).
• Knowledge of related systems architecture or operational teams (e.g. data architecture, product or process design).
• Analytical, logical and interpretive ability to interpret scenarios, and express concepts or models.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Experience

• MBA desirable, but not crucial
• Understanding of Financial Services Industry wide change initiatives including regulatory change.
