We seek experienced, energetic, enthusiastic, caring, physically active, organized, positive, persistent and patient team members to fill part-time roles supporting people in their homes and communities.  

• The person you will be supporting is an autistic male in his 30s who has catatonia, which affects him periodically (for short periods of time). He is unable to function normally and this impacts his day to day life, some days more than others.
• The activities he loves are; cycling, running, making his own meals and going for walks in Pukekura Park and at the beach.

This role is for someone who is prepared to do everything alongside the person, so it provides the perk of being able to do some leisure activities at work.

Must be fully vaccinated

Skills and experience

The ideal candidate will

• Have experience and confidence with working with challenging behaviour
• Have experience and understanding of supporting someone with autism
• Be flexible in communication styles
• Be a people person, able to build trusting and respectful relationships
• Be able to work creatively and problem-solve
• Have good community knowledge and be able to develop networks
• Ideally have a level 3 qualification in Health and Wellbeing and a current first aid certificate (although training can be provided for the right person)
• Have an understanding of bi-cultural practice in Aotearoa New Zealand
• Be comfortable with technology – Community Connections has a cloud-based database and rostering system that staff need to access with their mobile devices
• An understanding of anxiety and/or autism
• Have a full driver’s licence
• Will be a set work pattern + 1-2 sleepovers per week.
