Major Duties and Responsibilities

Database Administration (Oracle and MS SQL) (70%)

• Design and document database architecture
• Build database scheme, tables, procedures and permissions
• Set up disk partitioning and ASM disks
• Create shell scripts for task automation
• Analyze and sustain capacity and performance requirements
• Analyze, consolidate and tune database for optimal efficiency
• Monitor systems and platforms for availability
• Oversee backup and availability using DATAGUARD
• Install and test upgrades and patches
• Manage the Oracle Linux servers
• Manage and maintain Oracle Enterprise Manager

Scheduler Administration (15 %)

• Monitors the TIDAL scheduler to identify and rectify job issues
• Create, delete or modify scheduled tasks
• Manage access rights and permissions
• Plans for the upgrades and implementation of patches to ensure optimum operability

General Systems support (15%)

• Contribute to the overall support by increasing skill sets to backup other members of the team
• Contribute to the rotation of help desk tasks
• Manage backups with Tivoli Storage Manager (IBM Spectrum Protect)
• Participate in systems projects when required
• Participates in the maintenance and active/passive testing of the Disaster Recovery Plan
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge on new technologies as related to the above major duties

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor in Computer Sciences or equivalent
• Oracle certification
• 3-5 years in managing Oracle Databases
• 3+ years Oracle Enterprise Manager
• Experience in RMAN, ASM disks, SQL
• Experience n Windows and Linux desktop environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong organizational, analytical and troubleshooting abilities
• High degree of creativity and independent judgement is expected
• Ability to balance competing client demands and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline oriented environment
• 2+ years IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (Spectrum Protect) or similar backup and recovery tools
• Experience with schedulers such as TIDAL and with virtualization technology such as VMware
• Knowledge of MS SQL
• Windows and Linux Administration
