REPORTS TO:
Global Operations Manager, (based in Adelaide, Australia)

ROLE PURPOSE:
We are looking for a full time Medical Laser Applications Technician who possesses a process improvement mentality with hands-on skills to join the engineering team at our Head Office in Adelaide, Australia. The Medical Laser Applications Technician will be responsible for working with the R&D and engineering teams to bring products from the R&D stage to production in cooperation with regulatory and quality teams, improving existing production processes as part of our product development cycle as well as providing technical support through the lifecycle of our products.

The Medical Laser Applications Technician will provide the company with hands on innovation and knowledge in the area of Medical Laser applications and technical design engineering of Nova Eye products including 2RT® Lasers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Product Design

Work as part of a design team to achieve product deliverables.
Create detailed, technical specifications for designs sufficient to support the design activities of all disciplines, including mechanical, optical and laser.
Create test and verification plans / procedures in support of design qualification and production testing relating to Medical Laser systems.
Create technical content for use in production and process procedures – assembly, alignment, testing and processes.
Maintain Design History Files / Technical Files in accordance with established Design Control Procedures.

Product Support

Oversee Production / Service / Sales & Marketing support.
Vendor development and problem resolution of non-conforming material.
Provide ongoing technical support for product designs through the life of the product.

Customer Support

Diagnose, fault find, repair and service of Medical Laser systems.
Work remotely and without direct supervision.
Provide technical support to customers and the Sales force.
Provide on-site service to customers when required, including installation, commissioning and programmed maintenance.
Design and manufacture service and maintenance tools for medical systems
Perform regular field service trips locally, interstate and globally.
Train technicians/contractors as required.

Actively explore new techniques and methods in the design of Medical Laser systems.
Explore opportunities for reducing product development cycle time and costs.
Explore opportunities for reducing product manufacturing costs.

General

Comply with company Quality System policies and procedures
Comply with all WHS policies, codes of practice and standards.
Comply with company policies and procedures.
Improvements to internal controls.
Ensuring a safe and tidy workplace.
Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

Required

5+ years of experience with medical devices including lasers and optical equipment
Applications trainer on a range of medical devices.
Successful and accredited training on a range of medical laser devices.
Tertiary level education in electronic or electro-mechanical engineering or similar trade qualifications desirable.
Knowledge of work health and safety in a workshop environment
Experience working with ISO requirements, GMP guidelines, FDA regulations and medical device design control.
Excellent written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills.

Must be detail-oriented, highly organized and possess the ability to multi-task.
Must possess ability to handle all aspects of relationships with internal and external customers as well as staff in multiple locations globally.
Must possess ability to adapt to new technologies, systems, and software applications.
Must possess ability to handle high pressure situations and effectively prioritize workload.

Nova Eye Medical Limited (Nova Eye) owns three businesses in ophthalmology;

the Nova Eye Inc “iTrack” business based in Fremont, California that designs, manufactures and sells surgical products for treating glaucoma,
the Nova Eye Medical “2RT” business based in Adelaide, Australia that has pre-commercial, highly prospective technology for treatment of people with early to intermediate age-related macular degeneration; and
the Molteno glaucoma drainage device based in Dunedin, New Zealand.
The markets for Nova Eyes products are large, global and have high potential for growth.
