Job Description

Job Description

What is the opportunity?

You will effectively gather data, analyze it and translate the results into non-technical business information on which informed decisions will be made.  You will perform exhaustive root cause analysis to uncover actionable insights, conceive and validate ideas and partner with stakeholders to help optimize performance against Fraud’s four pillars: fraud loss, client experience, operational cost and risk framework.  You will synthesize complex analysis into highly relevant, easy to understand, non-technical packages with clear, actionable recommendations and apply analytic proficiency in conjunction with Fraud subject matter expertise to proactively identify the most valuable questions to answer and problems to solve.

Please Note: Applicants from outside of Toronto and Montreal are welcome to apply and work remotely.

What will you do?

  • Define analytical objectives, source relevant data, perform in-depth analysis and present clear, concise and actionable insights to stakeholders in a timely, accurate and effective manner
  • Deliver exhaustive root cause analysis by proactively identifying the most valuable questions to answer and problems to solve, and communicate reasonable assumptions and inferences based on business knowledge
  • Support the business with ad-hoc insights and data points and deliver results to a wide variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders, to help them make well-informed decisions based on empirical evidence
  • Explore and works with a variety of data sources, extracting knowledge and actionable information from massive datasets, and present findings and recommendations in a well-structured and easy to understand manner
  • Perform extensive data validation/quality assurance analysis on large datasets, identify and resolve information that needs cleansing and updating, troubleshoot, investigate and fix data anomalies and issues
  • Work independently and with team members to understand database structure and business processes, evaluate workflow inefficiencies and action areas of improvement
  • Serves as data expert and continuously strives for a deeper understanding of fraud business drivers.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations, negotiate priorities between stakeholder interests, collaborate with team to ensure the highest value deliverables are completed and foster a culture of collaboration and engagement

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 2+ years of experience working with big data, including data analysis, database technologies, analytical software packages and BI/visualization tools (e.g. Python, Spark, SQL, SAS, Dataiku, DataRobot, Tableau)
  • Knowledge of Fraud products and Fraud-related applications
  • A love for insights, innate curiosity and a deep desire to find ways to create value
  • Passionate problem solver, with proven ability to break down problems, formulate the right questions and develop analytical insights
  • A good business sense and understanding of why data is pulled and if it seems accurate, not just pulling it
  • Comfortable working in a complex data environment and understanding of data structures
  • Efficient time management and organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional communication skills and behaviours
  • Bachelor degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent professional experience

Nice to have:
