This permanent position is responsible for the development and operationalisation of the compliance and enforcement strategy for the Forestry ETS. There will also be responsibility to manage the day-to-day delivery of a risk-based compliance programme of work that ensures compliance outcomes are achieved.
This role will ensure the integrity of the ETS for Forestry by leading the Compliance function to monitor, investigate and resolve compliance breaches. The Manager Forestry ETS Compliance has staff within their area of responsibility that are Wellington and regionally based.

To be successful in this role you will be a strong people leader and an effective relationship builder. Your track record of successful strategic leadership and talent management, with high level strategic capability and ability to maintain a clear focus on long-term goals is what will ensure you stand out.
Importantly, you will have experience managing compliance functions, applying penalties, prosecutions, undertaking compliance risk assessments, and drawing on a range of options for responding to non-compliance.

As part of Climate Change Operations, you will be part of a busy, fast paced team, working in a fun and collaborative environment implementing compliance within the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). Te Uru RÄkau - New Zealand Forest Service, a branch of the Ministry for Primary Industries, has delegated authority for administration of the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) for forestry. The ETS is New Zealand's main tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reaching our climate change goals.
The team is part of the Forestry and Land Management directorate. The directorate covers a wide range of forestry regulatory and operational responsibilities, with a focus on supporting sustainable land management, use of our forestry resources, and New Zealand's climate change responsibilities.
