Role and responsibilities

Manager level consulting resources within our Banking and Financial Services (BFS) teams own, manage, and drive the delivery and execution of transformational consulting projects for top tier banks and financial services firms in Canada and around the world. Typical projects are multi-disciplinary and incorporate analyses covering industry landscape evolution, regulatory impacts, business strategy, digital / omni-channel distribution, operational considerations, and technology strategy and platform optimization.

 In addition, managers often take up leadership and transversal roles during large-scale engagements involving other Cognizant practice and service lines.

Primary responsibilities include:

Consulting engagement execution

  • Identifying critical factors related to the successful delivery of each engagement
  • In partnership with VPs, structuring and managing delivery teams
  • Solving clients’ critical challenges related to the reinforcement of their core business positioning and the design, development, and deployment of next generation business models
  • Overseeing data gathering and structuring
  • Leading teams in applying relevant diagnostic tools, leading-edge methodologies, and techniques to support problem solving
  • Formulating, articulating, and evaluating options for client considerations
  • Developing comprehensive recommendations and associated roadmaps
  • Facilitating and presenting to client-side senior executives and other key stakeholders
  • Adapting as required to dynamically changing client environments

Thought leadership

  • Conducting research on market and industry trends
  • Contributing to the development of new banking and financial services consulting offerings
  • Co-authoring articles and whitepapers showcasing the firm’s thought leadership
  • Assisting in managing the firm’s knowledge assets

Practice development

  • Acting as a mentor for new joiners, helping familiarize these with the firm’s environment, consulting practice protocols, work culture, etc.
  • Reviewing and updating training materials and modules
  • Actively sharing knowledge and providing coaching and guidance within team structures
  • Assisting in recruitment activities

 Business development support

  • Participating in pre-sales activities
  • Contributing to the development of presentations and proposals for clients and prospects
  • Canvassing for additional value creation opportunities within existing client systems

Ideal applicant qualifications

3 to 5 years of management consulting experience at an established consultancy or advisory group

  • Gravitas and ability to relate to senior executives
  • Bachelor of Engineering, commerce, business, economics, or similar discipline (MBA or other graduate studies an asset)
  • Domain experience and credentials in two or more of the following BFS areas — retail banking, commercial banking, lending and mortgage, cards and payments, capital markets and wealth management, risk and regulations, cards, and payments, fintech platforms, and digital technologies
  • Demonstrable skills in core consulting tools (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Access etc.), methodologies (e.g., data analytics, data visualization, process mapping), frameworks and storyboarding
  • Honed skills in leading teams in high-impact, high-pressure environments
  • Broad, enterprise-wide business perspectives, and at least intermediate level proficiency in several of business and technology strategy, operations / process improvement, capabilities building, enabling technologies, and organization / governance
  • Ability to apply deep understanding of domain and industry frameworks to plan, define and solution client engagements, with an appreciation of top down as well as bottom-up approaches to solution engagement
  • Experience in program / project management techniques, including use of agile and waterfall frameworks, governance principles, risk management principles, and partner relationship management
  • Proficiency in business architecture
  • Self-starter and outcome-focused problem solver
  • Strong work ethic with a commitment to client service excellence
